So, we will open up the matches for Week 4 against Reggina in the Oreste Granillo Stadium in Reggio Calabria .. last time we played against them we lost 1-2 but we already had the Scudetto bagged and rested alot of starters, this is a different story and we need to get all 3 points without under-estimating the opponents ..

We need to be aware of the dangerous front-duo of David Di Michele and Emiliano Bonazzoli. Nakamura could also cause us problems if he started the match, seeing that he scored 2 goals against Brescia last week ..

But I think we should rest some of our players who looked exhausted against Roma .. maybe Appiah and Zambrotta deserve a rest as they started every match since the start of the season and need to be in good shape for the away European match against Olympiakos .. we have good substitutes in Birindelli and Davids/Maresca ..

This will be the first of a series of matches without Del Piero, so maybe Di Vaio will start along with Trezeguet as Miccoli isn't 100% fit yet .. Di Vaio can directly replace Alex in the left of midfield or play off Trezeguet .. Camoranesi should also start this match as he only played in the later stages of the Roma match ..

This should be an interesting encounter. Juve will be without Del Piero for the first time this season, but Tacchinardi and Miccoli should be available for selection and Di Vaio who scored twice against Roma will take ADP's place in the starting line-up.

Reggina are unbeaten this season, but they haven't won yet either and their defence isn't the strongest. I will be keen to see if Lippi will go back to the 4-2-3-1 formation that was used in the first three matches, or if he sticks with the 4-3-1-2 scheme that was fielded against Roma.

My prediction:

Reggina 1-2 Juventus

Serie A Preview: Reggina v Juventus

BACKGROUND:

Juventus travel to the 'Granillo' of Reggio Calabria to play Reggina in one of the two Saturday matches of Serie A.

The bianconeri come off an entertaining match against Roma, but with the knowledge of having to do without their star player Alessandro Del Piero for at least 40 days. Luckily for Marcello Lippi, Fabrizio Miccoli, who has more or less the same characteristics of Del Piero, is back following his appendix operation, however he will be sitting on the bench, at least for the first half.

Lippi is expected to rest some players ahead of Tuesday's Champions League clash against Olympiakos, so we can expect to see Alessandro Birindelli and Mark Iuliano getting a rare start.

Reggina come from a good start of the season, where apart from the first five Serie A teams, they are the only side who has not yet lost a match. On the other hand Reggina have not yet won a match this season, having squandered important leads in all three matches, the last of which against Brescia in the final few minutes.

Franco Colomba will be hoping ex-Juventus player, Davide Baiocco, will produce a quality and quantity match to counter Juve's strong midfield players.

LATEST TEAM NEWS:

JUVENTUS: Turnover will be the key word here, with Lippi wanting to rest some of the players who featured in most if not all games up till now. Therefore, Montero and Thuram will give way to Iuliano and Birindelli respectively, with Tudor and Maresca fighting for a shirt instead of the injured Tacchinardi.

Even though Del Piero's absence will be important, depth in the Juve squad will help to overcome the loss.

REGGINA: The Amaranti will face Juventus with the same squad that drew 4-4 away to Brescia last weekend, except for Belardi replacing Lejsal in the goal post. Cozza is still not 100% and will have to accommodate himself on the bench, but Nakamura will be in the starting eleven and hoping to impress once again.

PROBABLE LINE-UPS:

JUVENTUS (4-3-1-2): Buffon; Birindelli, Legrottaglie, Iuliano, Zambrotta; Davids, Maresca, Camoranesi; Nedved; Di Vaio, Trezeguet

REGGINA (4-3-2-1): Belardi; Jiranek, Sottil, Franceschini, Falsini; Tedesco, Baiocco, Mozart; Nakamura, Di Michele; Bonazzoli

PLAYERS TO WATCH:

Marco Di Vaio (Juventus): This is Di Vaio's time to shine after having enjoyed most of the early season on the bench. Still, with just over 100 minutes played in the first 3 league matches, Marco bagged 3 goals at an average of 1 goal every 35 minutes.

Shunsuke Nakamura (Reggina): After an excellent first season, Nakamura seems destined to equal, if not better, this season thanks to some really good performances in these early outings. The bianconeri will have to watch out mostly from his deadly set pieces.

TREZ OUT

09/26/2003. Juventus are expected to play with Marcelo Zalayeta next to Marco Di Vaio at Reggina this Saturday as David Trezeguet suffered an ankle injury during training this morning.

Because of this injury, the French striker might also miss next Tuesday's Champions League clash against Olympiakos.

Trezeguet's sidelining is terrible news for Juve boss Marcello Lippi as he already lost forward Alessandro Del Piero for about 50 days in light of the muscle pull the Bianconero skipper suffered against AS Roma last Sunday

With Treze out our offense will be stretched (Dp, Treze, Miccoli). Anyway, I'm not too fond of Zalayeta so I'd prefer a 4-2-3-1 formation:

----------Buffon-----------------

--Thuram--Legro--Iuliano--Biri

--------Tacchi----Appiah-------

--Camo---Neddy---Maresca--

-----------Di Vaio---------------

Zala what?
I'm agree with with dp4e, at this point is better a formation like this...
Miccoli may be in the bench, let's see if he will maybe play the end of the game.

Treze is injurying himself too often... he's so frigile. What's wrong with him???

13 Iuliano
19 Zambrotta
18 Appiah
5 Tudor
26 Davids
11 Nedved
