Serie A Preview: Reggina v Juventus
BACKGROUND:
Juventus travel to the 'Granillo' of Reggio Calabria to play Reggina in one of the two Saturday matches of Serie A.
The bianconeri come off an entertaining match against Roma, but with the knowledge of having to do without their star player Alessandro Del Piero for at least 40 days. Luckily for Marcello Lippi, Fabrizio Miccoli, who has more or less the same characteristics of Del Piero, is back following his appendix operation, however he will be sitting on the bench, at least for the first half.
Lippi is expected to rest some players ahead of Tuesday's Champions League clash against Olympiakos, so we can expect to see Alessandro Birindelli and Mark Iuliano getting a rare start.
Reggina come from a good start of the season, where apart from the first five Serie A teams, they are the only side who has not yet lost a match. On the other hand Reggina have not yet won a match this season, having squandered important leads in all three matches, the last of which against Brescia in the final few minutes.
Franco Colomba will be hoping ex-Juventus player, Davide Baiocco, will produce a quality and quantity match to counter Juve's strong midfield players.
LATEST TEAM NEWS:
JUVENTUS: Turnover will be the key word here, with Lippi wanting to rest some of the players who featured in most if not all games up till now. Therefore, Montero and Thuram will give way to Iuliano and Birindelli respectively, with Tudor and Maresca fighting for a shirt instead of the injured Tacchinardi.
Even though Del Piero's absence will be important, depth in the Juve squad will help to overcome the loss.
REGGINA: The Amaranti will face Juventus with the same squad that drew 4-4 away to Brescia last weekend, except for Belardi replacing Lejsal in the goal post. Cozza is still not 100% and will have to accommodate himself on the bench, but Nakamura will be in the starting eleven and hoping to impress once again.
PROBABLE LINE-UPS:
JUVENTUS (4-3-1-2): Buffon; Birindelli, Legrottaglie, Iuliano, Zambrotta; Davids, Maresca, Camoranesi; Nedved; Di Vaio, Trezeguet
REGGINA (4-3-2-1): Belardi; Jiranek, Sottil, Franceschini, Falsini; Tedesco, Baiocco, Mozart; Nakamura, Di Michele; Bonazzoli
PLAYERS TO WATCH:
Marco Di Vaio (Juventus): This is Di Vaio's time to shine after having enjoyed most of the early season on the bench. Still, with just over 100 minutes played in the first 3 league matches, Marco bagged 3 goals at an average of 1 goal every 35 minutes.
Shunsuke Nakamura (Reggina): After an excellent first season, Nakamura seems destined to equal, if not better, this season thanks to some really good performances in these early outings. The bianconeri will have to watch out mostly from his deadly set pieces.
