Juventus:

Incredible signing in Vieira. Good chance he will toughen up the defence while in attack Mutu is a terrific addition. With Kovac the defence seems pretty much settled. Chiellini and Kovac tie up the defence well. The only concern is creativity in Midfield, which might mean trouble in getting the ball forward or adequate support in attack. With Juve's attacking ability they dont need too many chances however, unless bad form hits.

Defence: 8.5/10 Kovac and Chiellini not top quality, but solid additions to an already impressive defence.

Midfield: 7/10 Capello seems to favor the defensive midfield, with Giannichedda, Blasi, Emerson, and Vieira, who will by all means strike fear into managers looking to penetrate the defence. Only Camoranesi and Nedved are true attacking midfielders here, however, which suggests a lack of creativity and dynamism- a lack of balance perhaps.

Attack: 9/10 Investing in Ibrahimovic has reaped rewards clearly, and together with Mutu, he multiplies Juve's offensive potency three-fold.

Milan:

The club have completed the signings of Marek Jankulovski, Johan Vogel and Christian Vieri who will strengthen an already world class team. Young Italian marksman Alberto Gilardino has also finalised a dream move to the San Siro so scoring goals shouldn't be much of a problem for last season's losing Champions' League finalists. When you combine that with an organised midfield and a bunker of a defence you've got yourself serious Scudetto contenders.

Goalkeeper: Dida is one of the most highly rated shotstoppers in world football and not without good reason. This year Milan have good cover for the Brazilian in Euro 2004 winner Eleftheropoulous. Valerio Fiori is there as well. 8.5/10

Defence: Jaap Stam and Paolo Maldini have both enjoyed illustrious careers and are to this day still very good players, but how will they fair in 05-06? Will they be able to match the pace of youthful opposition? Will they be able to handle the rigours of what will undoubtedly be a very long season? If these questions are answered in the negative then who do the Rossoneri turn to? Alessandro Nesta is one hell of a defender but he can't do it on his own. Personally I feel that an injection of pace and youth to the Milan defence is lacking and this could end up being their achilles heel this term. 7/10

Midfield: Compact and organised defensively, effective and quite often attractive in attack is AC Milan's midfield. Pirlo's vision and distributory passing skills, Gattuso's sheer tenacity and workrate, Seedorf's guile and finesse, and Kaka's explosive attacking talent make for an awesome midfield quartet. With players such as Vogel, Ambrosini, Jankulovski, Serginho and Rui Costa in reserve only the worst of injury crisises will bother Milan in this area of the pitch. 9/10

Attack: What can I say that hasn't already been said about Andriy Shevchenko? The 2004 Balon d'Or winner is good value for the world's best striker in the opinion of many and he will receive good support from Alberto Gilardino, Christian Vieri, and Pippo Inzaghi this season. Gilagol will be looking to confirm his status as Italy's most promising goal-getter by doing the business at the highest level while Vieri and Inzaghi will be eager to prove to the press, their manager, Marcello Lippi and the world that they aren't done yet. With Kaka working his magic behind the front two and Pirlo pulling the strings from his holding midfield role Milan shouldn't find goals difficult to come by in 05-06. 9/10
