Alright boys. Am in the market for a new phone. Now, I know it would make perfect rational sense to go with something that's up to date as of this minute. However, given my needs and style quotient, my parameters are a little skewed.

To give you an idea of what kind of user I am, I dont switch phones every quarter or 6 months, usually holding on to a piece for sometime. Moving on now, I've been back and forth about this, but I'm unable to pick one from the three I've narrowed down on. Do keep in mind though, certain handsets are not popular in certain markets, so do not recommend a phone according to how popular or unpopular it is in your region.

My shortlist consists of the Samsung SGH D820, Motorola V3i and the Nokia 9300 communicator. The V3i being the cheapest of the three offering quite a bit, would've otherwise been dropped from the pack because of its unbelievable popularity (everyone has one), but it continues to feature in the list because of its unbelievable looks, features and affordability.

Now the yardstick for my new phone:
1. A decent set of features - Personally, dont tend to lead with a camera and mp3 when looking for a phone, so the features could be anything that helps communicate more efficiently.

2 More than looks, sophistication is high on the list.

3. Easy on the eye and something that would hold itself together even three years down the line. That is to say, it wont get outdated as quick as phones generally tend to.

So taking it all into account, which one would you recommend from the list? And please give a reason why.

@ Hamid.i had the prototype N80 a couple months back & i loved it.

Pro's - 3.2MP camera(for pics & video) with built-in flash,wi-fi for wirless browsing,3G for video conferencing & high speed internet(384kps),bluetooth,infrared,mp3 player,radio,push to talk & a 256k colour screen.

Cons - Symbian OS series 60,symbian os's are renowned for freezing & being slow.Software viruses are easily picked up via bluetooth & even sms or mms.Dont leave the bluetooth on as ppl can browse through ur phone & even forward viruses via bluetooth.

@ Baggio - The Samsung D820 comes with rca cables to connect the phone to a tv,which is great as u can view pics, vids & documents on the tv.1.3MP camera,no 3G & radio.Personally i dont like the Samsung os but the screen & audio quality is superb.

The V3i is probably the best in terms of design & and the fact that it has a 1.3MP camera & a memory card option is the big improvement on the V3.

The Nokia 9300 is more focused on PDA functionality than multimedia functions as it has no camera although it comes with a usb cable, desktop sync charger,128mb mmc card, audio headset & pc sync software.Nice thing about it is that u can view documents like word & excel. The screen is nice & wide for internet browsing & u can put the blackberry sytem on it(network dependant though).

First & foremost u should look at aftersales service & support as that has a big bearing on a purchase for me.Where i live Nokia's support structure is bad due to its popularity & large amount of repairs.Samsung & Motorola are a bit slow when ity comes to bringing in accessories the same time as the release of the phone.

Have i look at the Nokia 6280 & the Sony Ericsson range, personally i love Sony Ericsson as they are the best in terms of features & support.

We don't want to hear what you feel about every thread; do that one more time and I'll warn you.

Baggio, personally I think nothing beats a Sony Ericsson in terms of technicality and features. Their phones are also user friendly. If not, go for Samsung. No matter what stay away from Motorola :yuck:

Guys, I have a T610...which is why I'm not considering another Sony Ericcson. Not that it's bad or anything, just want to try a new phone out. Which is why I considered the Samsung and Moto. And even though I like both, I was wondering how much rationale there was behind this? Nokias basically have the best resale value on them, so even if I bought the 9300, its value wouldnt depreciate as rapidly as the other two. So 6 months down the line, if I realise it's not the phone for me and trade it in for a V3i or the like, my losses would be nominal. Also, Nokias have the best support system in place, given their early entry into the market. As do SE, but they're not nearly as well structured in terms of after sale support and resale value. Would it then make sense to go for the 9300 now(it is a phone I've wanted for the longest time, but couldnt afford when it was newly introduced)?

PS: Thanks for the indepth reply, Madarchod. :p And jeekster.
