Most gay people want to marry, not to rub it in your homophobic face, not to make some kind of statement or not to disrespect god. But for the legalities that come with marriage. Why cant two men who live together not have the same legal rights as a family of a man and a woman? Every human is flawed, its up to god to judge right? With the catholic church its other men deciding the rules. The belief that god is somehow orcastrating this religion has long be lost. A god who is against homosexuals wouldnt have homosexual priests. A god who had any control over his church wouldnt have abusive nuns violating women or paedophile priests corrupting innocent children.
And since we are so concearned with what is right by god. I'll use the bible as an example in this instance.
Dosent the bible also tell us divorce is wrong? Eating certain foods at lent. Im pretty sure molesting children is wrong. Heck the bible tells us to sacrifice animals during marriage and such. Are we enforcing all these teachings?
How many of these anti-homosexual marriage people, who use the excuse of religion for their ignorance are this in touch with bible teachings? If they are then fair enough but the reality is that these same people are usually the adulterers, bigots and wife beaters of this world. I cant see it happen soon, especially not in american, people are just to ignorant to it.
