Rocchi gets Olympic call

It has been confirmed that Lazio striker Tommaso Rocchi will be the only overage player in Italy’s squad for the Olympic Games.

Azzurrini Coach Pierluigi Casiraghi will lead his side in search of gold in Beijing, but he is allowed to name three players over the age of 23.

Despite rumours suggesting that superstars such as Francesco Totti and Alessandro Del Piero could be chosen, the only overage player will be 30-year-old Rocchi.

“Rocchi will help this team be competitive as they look to follow up their Toulon Tournament triumph at the Olympic games,” Italian Football Federation President Giancarlo Abete confirmed.

Italy won the Toulon Tournament – an annual competition for Under-21 sides – at the end of May with Fiorentina’s Pablo Daniel Osvaldo scoring the decisive goal in a 1-0 Final win over Chile.

Casiraghi’s side have been drawn in Group D for the Olympics and have been paired with the Republic of Korea, Cameroon and Honduras.

It is weird. Forwards isnt the position they needed, plus him not being that good, Rossi is better and Acquafresca has the prima punta role locked down. Experience is needed more in defence and maybe midfield, not so much upfront, especially when the player is not that good.

He is a useful and decent player, but he should show those who hail everything from our youth squad as the second comings, a thing or two.

Yea I would have called up Inzaghi he would have gone... it's not like Milan need him for their champions league preliminaries

It should have gone to a player who was invloved in the 2007 U-21 champ. but is now over-age like Palladino or especially Rosina, the guy has drifted off the radar something shocking, it would of been good to see him there yet they call up a player, who like Vinman said is a waste of a spot

There is no room for Rosina with Giovinco, Rossi and Montolivo. Palladino is even more hopeless.
