they get French nationality, they get called up for the national team because they are good and thus they are french players. once you are capped for a national team you can't switch to another one.

I believe much of it is due to French ties to former colonies (especially in Africa)... it gives these players an option to be French nationals and play for the NT.

If you notice, a good chunk of the France NT is born outside of France, but in areas administered by France not too long ago.

Examples:
Abidal - Martinique
Thuram - Guadelope
Makalele - Dem. Rep of Congo
Malouda - French Guiana
Vieira, Evra - Senegal
Boumsong - Cameroon
Mavuba - Int'l Waters (Angolan/Zaire, Immigrated to France)
Piquionne - New Caledonia

(Fiorentina.it)

I was just going to post that, oriax.

Well, if the reports about Sissoko are correct we don't necessarily need Mavuba, so La Viola can have him. We need somebody who can pass the ball next to Momo... DESPERATELY. That way, all the big guy has to do is steal the ball and make a short pass to the playmaker, just like Gattuso and Pirlo work respectively.

The bad thing is that we could miss Sissoko too. Some liverpool fan (which is one of the well informed fans) wrote in one forum that Juve's offer for sissoko was rejected by Liverpool and they plan to offer him an improved contract at the end of the summer. The thing is that he knew about the our offer right from the beginnig. I really hope he is wrong about that coz i like this guy a lot!

dont worry, momo will definately not be staying at liverpool next season because he wont get a game, and if they rejected a 15m offer then they are crazy, he should be ours in the next month, ease the stress!

Fonte: Radio Radio - firenzeviola.it

Viola bids for Barzagli and Mavuba Tuesday 5 June, 2007

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Fiorentina continue to dominate transfer talk, as Andrea Barzagli and Rio Mavuba confirm they have received offers.

The Tuscans had already been linked with Palermo defender Barzagli and faced competition from Juventus, Inter and Roma.

“The Viola have put forward an offer, now it is up to President Maurizio Zamparini to make a decision,” revealed agent Claudio Orlandini on 'Fiorentinanews.’

“Barzagli is very interested in being a part of the Fiorentina project. We are still at the start of negotiations and it will take time to conclude such a complex move.”

Having already snapped up Arturo Lupoli, Anthony Vanden Borre, Jan Hable and Ondrej Mazuch, they are also on the verge of signing Franco Semioli from Chievo.

Another bid has been tabled for Bordeaux midfielder Rio Mavuba, according to his agent Giovanni Morabito.

“He wants to leave France and is of interest to Fiorentina director Pantaleo Corvino, but Juventus are also tracking him,” the representative told 'Radio Radio.’

While we just talking, Fiorentina is doing bussines :faq: They gonna snap everything we wanted just because Secco is so lame. And how big is their transfer budget, they already signed four players...

Seriously we need to start signing...maybe being quiet is a good thing though bc we could be really close and we dont know it...its better than being outspoken about everything and them raising the price or Inter getting envolved
