I humbly disagree, but such lists are subjective. I wouldn't put CR7 in my top 10 of all time, and until Messi wins something for his country, he isn't worthy of the accolade either.

This is not a top 10 popularity contest though. This is a top 10 football ability contest.
Ronaldo and Messi are scoring extraordinary numbers and are doing it for ages now. 8 years or something and it doesn't look like they are over the hill yet. And that's a fact. They are the best footballers we have ever seen, looking in their careers as a whole.
Zidane was consistent for almost 10 years or something (surely 9). He was the brains of the 3 finals Juve, France and Real. But as much as I love him, he is not as good as Messing/Thin Ronaldo.
Again, the most important point is that, we shouldn't confuse football IQ and genius with how good the player eventually became. Sometimes because of other factors a player doesn't reach his potential.
Zidane and Maradona were football geniuses. But factors didn't allow them to reach their estimated potentksl (Zidane losing the finals with Juve and the last one with France also going to Real after they sold Makelele and suffered, Maradona playing for midtable teams). On the same time, Messi was fortunate to be in a team configured for him with excellent players and Ronaldo to have a team configured on him as well, great coaches etc.
Life is tough. But luck and factors play a part.

I'm sorry, but football has evolved to be more about power, pace, and physical presence. In terms of sheer beauty and elegance, both CR7 and Messi don't hold a candle to Zizou or the original Ronaldo. Different players, different eras, but this era is dominated by two guys, maybe because they are simply that good, or because the competition is absolute crap. You could make the same argument for the NBA. Crazy individual talent stacked on a few teams, and the rest are absolute shit. Perhaps that is why Messi and Ronaldo are so good, because their teams are incredibly powerful, and the rest are meh. It's the same teams that win shit every year. Back in the day, football was more balanced, and perhaps that is why it was more difficult to stand out, and that is also why when players like Maradona, Zizou, and Original Ronaldo excelled, it was all the more remarkable.

I strongly disagree with that. You tell me any injury and i'll tell you how illegal drugs can prevent it from happening or beeing much less serious.
Thing is, most of the drugs i will mention are exceptionally easy to detect.

Ligaments are normally extremely strong. In regular weak humans that dont lift, they are MUCH much stronger then your muscle fibers. Itrs rather diffucult to tear an ACL for a regular weak human as a result. You might not have much muscle, but you have plenty of ligament or tendon.
Weak regular humans, like football players, tear their ACL as a result of systematic induced trauma that keeps them at 60-80% recovery. Tackles, overly sharp turns etc. You can damage a tendon like that a good amount. Issue is, tendons and ligaments are made from collagene, of which the synthesis runs MUCH slower then muscles.
And there is simply not a simple legal or "borderline" legal product on the market that boosts this synthesis more then 2%

Real, Barca, Bayern, Juve, United with Fergie, etc.. but none talked about Robben or Nedved, Bale or Aguero being the best player ever. There is a reason (a well justified by numbers one) that those 2 are considered the best..
Now the rest is just speculation. I don't accept that we have less talents in football nowadays. The other way actually. The academies have been more active than ever. More talents are given a chance. And the internet has made scouting easier than ever. We re in the golden era of idea propagation.
Let's not let nostalgia blind us. Football is shoved up our asses as a product and a lot of people are full of it, rejecting it and idealising the past. But if you look at it objectively and isolate yourself from the ads, dabs and LV wallets, you can see that we re living in the best football era ever (coverage and talent wise).
