With Pirlo not playing, I don't understand why we even attempt such freekicks rather than simply chipping it into the box.

I don't like chipping the ball into the box when there isn't an angle. It's too easy to defend. Quite happy for the freekick to be passed to an angle where it is worth crossing from, though.

What I dislike is non-speacialists trying to take a freekick like a specialist.

Why not just smash the ball as hard as you can (like Bonucci does when he gets a chance) and see what happens?

More chance of something good coming from that than someone trying to delicately curl the ball over the wall and into the top corner from 30 yards.

I'm not even bothered about swerving it around the wall.

There will generally be a space to hit it straight at the 'keeper, assuming the 'keeper isn't daft enough the set up the wall to block his own view (only Casillas does things like that).

Just get a shot on target and, like you say, look for a rebound or a corner or even for the shot to be deflected and then anything could happen.
