What Domenech is now saying isn't any different than what the azzurri fans were saying when they were accusing UEFA of a conspiracy against Italy.
Both are wrong.
As for Cassano vs Del Piero, the Sampdoria guy had the luck to play the match where Italy won and secured qualification. After such a win no-one will look at the negative things from the France match so everyone who did anything wrong against France will be given an amnesty and a chance to play in the quarters.
The same would have happened if Toni's goal against Romania was allowed and Italy won that match. Donadoni wouldn't have changed the winning team and Ale would have played yesterday, even if he had a bad match vs Romania.
Del Piero was unlucky, Cassano was lucky, it's as simple as that.
Personally, both of them disappointed me because they are the two guys(+Pirlo) i expected to lead Italy through the group of death but they were among the worst players on the pitch.
You hit the nail completely on the head as neither player did anything with the difference being as you said the end result of both games.
Cassano actually played better against Romania when he came on and against France with all the space afforded he did very little.
Both players are victims though of Donadoni's tactics which is to provide ammo for a clearly exhausted Luca Toni. The guy has played so many games this season and scored a lot of goals.
I am still baffled as the Di Natale snub as he did nothing wrong against Holland. The thing I am most irritated by is that the realy good players, the ones capable of making Italy champions are being marginalised and 1 in Inzaghi that would have got a hattrick last night is not even here.
The likes of Dp, Di natale, cassano and Aquilani should have had more minutes than flops like Ambrosini, Camoranesi and Gatusso.
I know a lot of people do not appreciate Perrota but I do as his energy is something this weak Italy cannot do without. He may not have the natural ability but he does find space both for himself and his colleagues, pity there is no Totti to exploit his running power.
As for Donadoni he is exactly like his mentor Sacchi, both insane tactically and with personnel prefering quantity to quality, seriously only a buffoon would have played Ambrosini ahead of De Rossi.
I had said it a long time ago DDR is easily the most complete midfielder in Italy perhaps the world and he is wasted as a defensive midfielder. Unleash him and he would make Steve Gerrard look like an amateur as he has everything.
As for gatusso and zambrotta, I am shocked at the incredible demise of these 2 guys just 2 years on from world cup glory.
Against Spain, Italy would probably go through with another unconvicing display especially if puyol is out as Senna alone cannot handle Italy's offence and I am not convinced that Iniesta is fully match fit.
Grosso better beware of Sergio Ramos as he might eat him for breakfast, that boy has got huge talent going forward whilst Chiellini and Panucci would know abot off the ball running against Villa and Torres as until now let's be honest they have not come up against much attack
