well, he is eligable but he still plays for the U-21 team.
That's right but that doesn't mean he couldn't be chosen.
I like the Idea of G.Rossi playing but realistically he won;t get chosen . If i were up to me I would choose that attack line .

I like the defense but as much as I HATE to say it , Materrazzi is a better option than Barzagli unfortunately .

I agree completely with the midfield .
As for the goalkeepers , I would choose Sereni as third goalkeeper .
The chance of G. Rossi to get a call-up is very small indeed because players like Quagliarella,Di Natale,Borriello or even Gilardino are more likely to get called-up by Donadoni.
About Materazzi,he is quite ok but he got his off-days. Del Piero ran circles around him against Inter and that was what was worrying me.
How did the Azzurri forwards do tonight? Judging by the posts I'm gonna assume not well.

When this squad was announced on Saturday I said to my friends that Italy's Euro 08 hopes don't look good. I'm not asking for both Del Piero and Cassano but one of them is necessary. This team lacks a real match winner as Quagliarella, Di Natale and Iaquinta are not big time players. They may be able to get the job done for Udinese but the NT is a completely different thing. Donadoni is a fool to overlook Del Piero's class and experience and Cassano's only problem is his head because he's much better at football than the support strikers in the current squad.
All the Azzurri strikers were weak tonight. The only one who was ok was Borriello IMO.

I agree on the second part of your post.

Keepers:Instead of Consigli i'd get Abbiati or Curci, maybe even De Sanctis.

Defenders: Materazzi instead of Gamberini, and instead of Zaccardo maybe a surprise name.

Midfielders: Not sure about Montolivo, hasn't performed highly on a consistent level with Fiorentina this season, might be a bit early to put him into the national team. Not sure who to include instead, but i'm sure there are better options around. Who knows maybe Giovinco can surprise us all, as we could use a player who drifts to the left

Strikers: We need more than one finisher, so i wouldn't mind Borrielo being called up, as he has had quite a good season.
Why not use Iaquinta as a finisher ? However , Borriello is not bad , he has been on super form this season .

For the forwards I would take Toni, Borriello, Di Natale, Del Piero and Quagliarella. Quag is in there for his pace and ability to play out wide. He edges out Iaquinta because he's been playing more at club level. DP > Cassano because he's a class act and Cass is an idiot. Not enough room for both imo.

I thought about Curci and De Sanctis but then I remembered that they aren't starters so I picked Consigli who is really talented and a starter.
Tell me more about the surprise name...:D

You're right about Montolivo but I did not find anyone who deserves it more instead of him. Giovinco at the EC would be amazing and a real surprise which I would not mind at all. It's true that we need a player who drifts out to the left.

Yeah Borriello instead of G.Rossi who realistically isn't going to get a call-up.

:agree: Either would be a good choice.

Consigli would be an interesting choice, and he is very talented.

Don;t think Del Piero would have a chance to called up...
Don is a stubborn donkey waiting to get sacked after euro unless he won the euro or get into the semi final. He doesn;t even has the gut to accept the challenge by accepting the clause in his new contract..
as much as i hate to say, Italy just simply cannot win euro by the looks of it.
End of story

I said surprise name cause i couldn't think of anyone worthy of a spot :D Like what SGE did with Walcott at the World Cup, but this time a good player :D

I don't believe that any players who have not been called up so far by Don will be. Don't be surprised to see Semioli in Austria/Switzerland :groan:

Same fowards i would take without a doubt dont understand why some people are against di natale and quagliarella.

I didn't think we played that badly last night, not great though either. It took a hell of a strike to beat Gigi and maybe we were unlucky not to score with Camo's shot which hit the cross bar.

e Azzurri saw their six-match winning-streak come to an end on Wednesday night when they lost 1-0 to Spain in a friendly in Elche.

Italy have received a little bit of criticism for a lack of flair in their line-up, and many believe that a player like Giuseppe Rossi, who has scored 11 goals in La Liga for Villarreal this season, would be the man to rectify this.

"Di Natale is good and I really like Quagliarella - Bearzot told the Gazzetta dello Sport.

“But I like a lot the boy who played in the Under 21’s, Rossi, and who the other night scored two goals.

“Should he be called up? Why not? If a player is good, he is good even if he is 20-years-old.”

Bearzot then made a reference to the great Paolo Rossi, who finished top-scorer at Espana 82’, scoring six goals in the final three games against Brazil, Poland and West Germany.

”Let's say he has a surname which is a guarantee,” Bearzot continued.

“But I don’t want to create problems for Donadoni, who I admire very much for his seriousness.

“I do not want to be his lawyer, but I think he should be considered. I remember that Sir Alex Ferguson [of Manchester United] spoke very well of him.

“Even my Rossi, like [Antonio] Cabrini, were a surprise when I picked them for the 1978 World Cup in Argentina 78’ and then they suddenly exploded.”

Anthony Sormani

Wayne Rooney played for England when he was wat, 17 or 18?
Rossi, y not? this boy is better than Qua or Di Natale..haha...
since Don doesn;t want DP back, I reckon he should call for Rossi.

For strikers i would callup:
Toni, Inzaghi, Quagliarella, Del Piero, Di Natale.
Despite Borriello's great season he seems to much like the next Gilardino and with two caps to his name he's not ready for the euros. Inzaghi is Inzaghi and despite whatever anybody says about him he is the number one player at scoring in high pressure games. If the azzurri get far he needs to be Donadoni's super sub in the latter tournament games. I would prefer Rossi over Di Natale but Rossi has no shot at getting a callup with Crapadoni at the helm.
