well duh, of course I know that no one in the right mind would play them all, its all about having options within a strong squad, and we don't have that. Nedved had a bad season, I hate to say it but his age is really starting to tell. Giovinco isn't a left mid by trade, he can't battle like nedved can. VdV at a reduced price is too good to let pass.

can we get him at a reduced price though? i highly doubt it.
Also, if im not mistaken Ranieri once said he doesnt want to sign VdV

donadoni has to be the dumbest coach italy has ever seen. dp was the only forward to do anything, should have started. ambrosini is a waste of space, 3 dm's ffs!! materazzzi is a joke of a human being, no wonder his son supports milan, probably holland too.

you are starting to annoy me, where would VdV play then?
on the left you say
OK, in Neddies place and what about Giovinco hen?
in the middle? in whos place?
and again you really think Ranieri would ever play VdV- Gio-Mom-Camo
you seem to think you just invented hot watter
you have to think before you just buy a player who played a good game
Giovinco will be on the left for us as an understudy for Nedved, I really don't see where VdV would fit
first you call me stupid and naive and then you think you are so smart
well then you figure it out
how to play Giovinco or Nedved, Momo, Camo and VdV in a 4-4-2
and tell Ranieri how to do it cuz I don't see it happening

he has a year left on his contract and isn't renewing it so we could get him at a lower price depending on competition
but yes for me VdV is a pipedream seeing as ranieri said he doesnt want him

why would gio or VdV play In Cm?
Dont get too heated up about it because we all know that VdV won't happen
we are in CL next season so nedved will not be able to play every game in siere A too, so gio is a must.
sissoko is 100% a starter, no question about it
camo right mid too.
We can't expect ranieri to play 4-4-2 all the time in CL. Good teams will easily be able to out play us so with gio I see us playing a 4-2-2-2 with gio and camo on the wings. Then maybe I suggested VdV to play in that left wing because gio is not a world beater yet.
what you have pissed me off about is the fact that you are telling me I'm up my own arse, just because I mearly suggested that because we should consider VdV because of the way he ripped us apart last night. Then you come in and talk to me as though I'm an idiot.

I never called you anything, you used the words stupid, naive, duh, arse in your replies but ok I'm big enough to let it slide
let's talk in a civil manner
I don't see the need for VdV, not that he is not good enough but I expect us to play 4-4-2 with either Neddie or Giovinco on the left
that's my view
are we cool now

ok cool :)
I just thought that if VdV ran rings round the best Italy had to offer he would be great in Italy, therfore i would rather have hi in our team instead of say inter getting him.
I do think getting him to fit in our current team would be the problem though so I agree with you about that

France

I woke up today and saw Italy mourn. I went out to do an exam, but everyone in the faculty was staring at the ground. Some guy kept saying: "Ha sbagliato tutto, Donadoni, proprio tutto" ("He got it all wrong, Donadoni, all wrong"). Then another went towards him and said: "C'è sempre Alex però, vedrai, Alex ci salverà" ("There's always Alex, you'll see, he'll save us").

The general feeling here is that Donadoni made all the wrong choices. I tend to agree. Not fielding Grosso was probably the biggest mistake. Di Natale is, not entirely fairly, slaughtered. Then again Cassano and/or Del Piero should always play.

It's as if the entire country is in ruins. Everyone is putting their hope in Godot, but I don't think he'll make it. It's too little, too late. Donadoni lost the Euros before they began.

The central defensive pairing consisted of a dude who has been in horrible form for his club over the last year or so and another who captained a team with a backline that conceeded 57 goals over the season (Only Parma and Livorno, both relegated, had worse goals conceeded of 62 and 60 repectively)...This result figured

I wonder how much Don values Gatusso coz hes on a yellow and another one means no France. I think DDR should step in for Gatusso (for the rest of the games tbh) coz I feel Ambrosini offers more than Rhino currently

Player ratings from Channel4:

Buffon – 6.5
Putting his mistimed punch that led to the opening goal to one side, Buffon did all within his power to keep out the Dutch. Given that he was basically defenceless, he kept the score respectable. Well, almost respectable.

Panucci – 5
Looked tired and sluggish right from the off and his night got worse as the Dutch masters whizzed past him. He must have been relieved when he was moved into the centre. He may be feeling his age.

Barzagli – 4.5
Italy’s lost little boy in Berne. Without Fabio Cannavaro alongside him to hold his hand, the World Cup stopper was swept away by the Orange current which bombarded the rearguard. We’re still not sure how good he is…

Materazzi – 4.5
His heroics at the 2006 World Cup are just a distant memory. Slow and positioned poorly throughout, he may not get another chance to shine – or delude – at Euro 2008.

Grosso – 6.5
Thrown on in the second half, he injected some much needed pace and urgency to the Azzurri side. He should have done enough to net himself a first team jersey against Romania.

Zambrotta – 6
The desire and work rate was there, the touch and quality wasn’t. Italy will need his marauding runs if they are to have any chance of progressing to the knock-out stages.

Ambrosini – 5
Handed a starting shirt at the expense of Daniele De Rossi – which, even after a night’s sleep, is still mystifying – he got through a fair number of tackles, but did little more. The bench should loom.

Pirlo – 6
Without De Rossi alongside him, he was burdened with all of the playmaking responsibilities. He lit up the play with a few visionary passes and the tournament’s best free-kick so far, but it was too little from the Milanista.

Gattuso – 5
His gladiatorial spirit wasn’t enough to inspire his teammates last night. Loose in the tackle, we basically saw the Ringhio of Milan 2007-08 rather than the Campione del Mondo. Will Donadoni keep the faith?

Di Natale – 5
A star in qualification, Di Natale may have blown his chance on the big stage which he so desperately craved. The Dutch proved to be strong at the back, but Toto didn’t ask enough questions. Understandably replaced.

Del Piero – 6.5
Undoubtedly one of Italy’s best players on the night, what a shame he was thrown on so late in the game. Confident, fresh and fit, Del Piero threatened former teammate Edwin Van Der Sar on more than one occasion.

Camoranesi – 5
In the side to dribble past opponents and whip in crosses for Luca Toni, the Juventus winger did neither. Inconsistency has frustratingly always been his – and Italy’s – Achilles heel.

Cassano – 6
It was a bit much to ask him to be the saviour with 15 minutes left, but Cassano instantly underlined his ability with a divine assist for Toni. His talent is wasted on the bench.

Toni – 5.5
Perhaps Italy’s biggest concern. Was his inadequate display down to his own form or due to the fact that the team just didn’t play for him? Truth is that he had one real chance and wasted it.

Donadoni – 4
Questions were asked before the game about the omission of Daniele De Rossi and with good reason. A side with little balance, the Don acted too slowly in making changes which the Azzurri needed.

I wouldnt write Italy off just yet tbh.
In a manner Italy still have a better chance of qualifying than France, because have already dropped two points against the weakeast team in the group, while Italy is yet to play them. The France-Italy game could very well turn out to be the decider, with the victorious team moving to the 2nd round.I think its very hard for Italy now keeping their fragile defence in mind, but they still have it in their own hands. They dont need to rely on other results going their way incase they win their remaining 2 matches.
