Yeah, exactly. Del Piero will be expected to replace him. Seriously, he's going to hit the form just on time, let's wait and see :)

DP is 33, he isn't expected to fill totti or anyone's shoes. I think there's to much competition at the striker position for him to get called up. Right now, I'd rather have pazzini on the team ahead of DP. His NT career is over, he should stop trying to prove people wrong because at his age more times than not, he'll end up putting more heat on himself. DP is my hero, if he makes it great but I want him to earn it and not get a petty call up.

Im not sure that i agree with the pecking order put up by Morra10.Italy will need one of Vieri or Inzaghi to add some more firepower to the forward line.Di Natale,Quagdirella, and Iaquinta arent even natural finishers, and i dont think it would be wise to rely on Toni and a very unpredictable Gilardino alone for goals.I expect that forward line to change come the Euros.

1. toni
2. Di natale
3. Iaquinta
4. Quag's
5. gilla

As of right now that's the pecking order. I think inzaghi will get called up just because he scores in big games. As for DP, unless he steps up he doesn't deserve to get a call up. You can't call him up just because his name is del piero.
No.

Well I did say right now, just based on donadoni's call-ups. Vieri should of been called up, he's had a great start to his season. Like I said I'm pretty sure inzaghi will get the call up strickly because of what he's done in big games. Toni, Di natale, and iaquinta are sure bets but the other 2 spots are up for grabs.

yes, and zanetti is on form, so he should be given a chance. he hasn't had a proper chance in ages and I suspect he would love to pull on the Italian jersey.

he also doesn't have to replace pirlo, im not sure why you think he has to. ambrosini will be the one to be replaced.
well form alone doesnt get you to the NT..i mentioned Flamini as an example..he is on fire at the moment for Arsenal..and he is arguably in better form than Makelele this season...but does that mean he should get a chance ahead of Makelele??not in a million years.

Ambrosini is really underrated here in these forums..sure he isnt a world beater...but he's a good tackler..with decent positional sense and a very good header...Having said that i myself dont think ambrosini deserves to play ahead of De Rossi or even Aquilani.

I'm pretty sure both Del Piero and Inzaghi will be included in the "23".
I mean, he gotta pick 5 attackers, right, c'mon who else is he gonna call? Vieri? Ich dunt tink so.

Forza Azzurri !!!
but vieri seems to be finding his scoring boots with fiorentina so i don't think it's too far fetched. besides he's most successful with the azzurri so why not? rather vieri who can bamboozle defenders with his sheer power than gila who just flops like a wuss 35293707037times in the penalty area hoping for a call. :disagree:

Well in the same team (French) Benzema has been called up ahead of Trez because of his form. And look at the way Trez has performed so far this season. But tbh, its Domenech so most of his decisions recently are rubbish.

Well yes, he is a decent player. But if you aren't going to give anyone else a chance, you'll never see what they are capable of.

F*ck inzaghi, what big games? U saying del piero shouldnt be chosen based on his name but its okay to choose pippo based on what his done in big games for milan and not the azzurri. I would pick vieri, gila, pazzini, iaquinta u name them any day of the week over inzaghi

well done to italy, they were professional and got teh job done that they needed to do. ass usual teh scotish press will go on and on about the late free-kick decision but tbh di natale's goal was never offside (what a save from gordon though) and ferguson's goal was offside. all in all we got what we expected from th scottish team, lots of fight, lots of spirit but a lack of quality in the final third. heroic failures once again

The commentators need to give it a rest. The scots should be proud of taking the 2 world cup finalists right down to the wire.Scotland's own goal might have been marginally offside, but that doesnt matter.Mcfadden missed a sitter. The scots played well, better than Italy, but they didnt put the ball in the back of the net and they have only themselves to blame for that. The ref made a blunder, but you cant make him the scapegoat.Even if he hadnt made that mistake,Scotland were as good as out if the game had ended 1-1.
true its probably betetr to end this way as it would have been even more heartbreaking to be in with a chance and see both france and italy win their final game, sending us out anyway

Congratulations Azzuri fans .. and also French fans ..

Hard luck to Juve Red and Bozi .. I really wanted the Scots to qualify :)
cheers man, but looking back at all our posts you will see this is exactly what me and andy expected

Firstly I'd like to give major props to the Scots, I can only imagine how devastating it must be - you should be sooo proud of your team, in fact I know you must be. Certainly, you didn't deserve to lose and definitely not in that fashion. I was mightily impressed with Hutton especially.

Now to Italy, I wasn't happy with that second half, we didn't exploit the space when the game predictably became stretched, but I always say no-one will really remember the performances in qualifying when the tournament gets under way.

Very happy for Italy of course, but Scotland I applaud you.
thanks a lot but this is just what scotland are all about, they give you hope when it seems impossible and then falter at the end. we have really punched above our weight in this group and the best thing to come from it is that we have a betetr seeding for the world cup qualifying thus we will have a much better chance of qualifying

And on a more important thing, is that you, Bozi??

nah mate................i dont wear pink jumpers:confused:

well pippo did score for milan in the champions league final just this year. and I think he is more consistent then gila and better than vieri.

Buffon: Dedicated to Donadoni

Gianluigi Buffon has dedicated Italy’s Euro 2008 qualification to Roberto Donadoni. “Anyone else would’ve given up after the start we had.”

The Azzurri had a disastrous beginning to their Donadoni era back in 2006, when the inexperienced tactician was chosen to replace World Cup winner Marcello Lippi.

He lost two of his first three games, including a 3-1 qualifier in France, and stuttered to a 1-1 draw with Lithuania in Naples.

“Any other national team would’ve given up after the terrible September we had after the World Cup,” commented Buffon.

“We didn’t do that and some of the credit must go to Donadoni. The winner here was his consistency, his hunger for hard work and his sheer pig-headedness.”

The tactician’s job was on the line several times during this qualification campaign and he would have been sacked had Italy not reached the European Championships.

“There was no particular spark that made us have faith in him, we simply offered him our respect. Over time that rapport grew.”

Azzurri captain Fabio Cannavaro also had a special dedication for the Coach, who was lambasted in the media for his lack of experience.

“We were always sure of Donadoni. Of course we were aware he was a young Coach, but he had great ideas and can really motivate his men,” said the defender.

“This is a qualification we had to suffer for and he earned it.”

Donadoni lets it all out

Roberto Donadoni reveals why he went crazy in Scotland and once 'thumped’ Christian Panucci!

Sometimes referred to as the 'iceman’, the Italy boss is famous for rarely showing his feelings during victory or defeat, but in last night’s 2-1 win he leapt on to the pitch to celebrate with his players.

“I usually know how to hide my feelings. This time I exaggerated a little, didn’t I?” he grinned to 'La Stampa.’

“I wanted to immediately compliment the lads before doing so in the locker room. I even got my shoes dirty!

“I hope to live through many more situations like this. As a player it was my fault, it was a mistake to hold it in, even after a great victory I’d go into the locker rooms happy, but that was it.

“In my many years in football I have never felt such joy and emotion as I did here. Perhaps because the one centre stage wasn’t me, but my players.”

The tactician’s job was on the line if he failed to qualify for Euro 2008 and Donadoni was constantly criticised by the media after taking over the 2006 World Cup squad.

In particular he was lambasted for 'losing’ Francesco Totti and Alessandro Nesta to early retirement from international duty.

“I would prefer not to comment. The truth of the matter is I never had them in my squad. If someone wants to blame me, then I’ll take that, but I know how things really went and so do they.”

Perhaps Donadoni’s greatest achievement was in rediscovering Panucci, the veteran defender who had been frozen out of the Italy set-up, but brought back to score the decisive goal for Euro 2008 qualification.

“Panucci repaid my faith in him. In my choices, age does not count. Panucci could have played another half-hour on that rain-soaked pitch against Scottish players who ran their hearts out,” he said of the 34-year-old.

“The years don’t matter, what counts is your hunger for the game.”

Panucci was also Donadoni’s teammate when they were both at Milan, but he reveals it wasn’t all wine and roses!

“To be honest, when we were at Milan I thumped him over the head a few times. When there is the intelligence to understand you’ve made a mistake, you can recover any situation.”
