Donadoni Not Surprised By Lippi Comments

Italy coach Roberto Donadoni gave his reaction on the words of his predecessor Marcello Lippi, who claimed he does not rule out a return to the Azzurri.

The day after the crucial win over Georgia, Italy coach Roberto Donadoni gave his reaction to the recent remarks made by his illustrious predecessor on the Azzurri's bench, Marcello Lippi, who said he does not rule out an eventual return to his old job.

Donadoni said he was not surprised at all by these comments: "There's nothing strange about that, I would have said the same. When I left Livorno, I never said I wouldn't come back. These things are part of a coach's life."

There's still a month to go before what's undoubtedly the most important match of his coaching career, Scotland-Italy. It's the match that will decide whether Italy go to Euro 2008, and most probably also a turning point for the young coach's career.

"It's our Cup final, it will all be decided in 90 minutes: like when you make a run to the World Cup final and your destiny is decided in a single encounter. A whole year's work will come together in that one match," Donadoni continued.

Asked what type of team he thinks Scotland is, he said: "I watched their home game against Georgia live, they didn't deserve to win and won the game with a long-range shot. They're a team who transform themselves at home, they have enthusiasm, but also organization and the ability to play well on the counterattack.

"Ukraine caused them difficulties by imposing their football. We will have to do the same, trying to play on our strengths. We are superior technically, but in Glasgow we have to give a great performance, also in our spirit."

he is being a bit unfair on Scotland. We didn't play great but we probably did deserve to win.

And of course we played on the counter attack, we were 2-0 up in 10 minutes so we were able to just sit back and then counter attack.

Idiot.

Don: Scotland is our Final

Azzurri boss Roberto Donadoni is already looking forward to Italy’s Euro 2008 qualifier with Scotland and knows that failure is not an option.

Although a 2-0 win over Georgia left the World Cup holders in a qualification spot in Group B, it seems likely that nothing less than victory over leaders Scotland will see them through.

If France beat Lithuania and the Ukraine and Scotland beat Georgia, Donadoni’s men must take three points at Hampden on November 17.

“It is just like the World Cup Final and a whole year’s work will come down to 90 minutes,” the ex-Livorno tactician admitted.

“Scotland are a totally different side at home and they are very organised as well as spirited.

“We are technically a better side, but we will need to be on top form in Scotland.

"We are in the final straight and we just need one last burst of acceleration.”

An unfamiliar Italy side take on South Africa in a friendly in Siena on Wednesday as Donadoni has given four players their first Azzurri calls.

Where is it because I was looking for it yesterday and I could not find it under the Juvematch photogallery which is where i saw it last week.

Thankfully, I still don't think of him as a brother so we still have 'hook-up' potential  I have no idea who this B******o character is but, do your thing!

I totally agree with your line up...the only thing I would change would be drop Bonera and put in Gambrini. The only thing Bonera is good for is he has a nice ass but, in actually playing I don't think so.

Oh and I cannot believe this P. Cannavaro's first call up! Its about time.
if i told you who he was you will probably go after him :D

Who is B**********O?
shhhh dont tell Sarah its *orriell* :eyebrows:

maybe she means burdisso...

De Rossi: Scotland? No problem

Azzurri midfielder Daniele De Rossi has no doubts that Italy will overcome Scotland and qualify for Euro 2008. “They’re not at our level.”

Roberto Donadoni’s men know that unless other results go their way nothing less than a victory at Hampden will book them a place in Austria and Switzerland.

While Italy have never won in Scotland and Gigi Buffon has admitted he is scared the world champions may not get maximum points, De Rossi has played down the threat.

“In my opinion, Scotland will never be at our level,” the Roma star scoffed. “Failing to qualify would be serious, but I think we have the personnel to succeed.

“It’s not as difficult as people say – all we have to do is win in Scotland. I’m still hoping that Georgia could stop them and save us the trouble though.”

De Rossi also gave his opinion on the decision to ban away fans from Roma’s Stadio Olimpico encounter against Napoli this weekend.

“In a closed stadium nobody gets killed so it’s better to make this decision,” he claimed.

“It’s time to take a step forward and stop this stupidity of coming to the ground to hurt others.”

De Rossi will captain Italy for the first time in Wednesday's friendly against South Africa in Siena.

De Rossi is walking a fine line between confidence and over-confidence.

We have beaten France twice and they are at Italy's level.

Foggia may miss SA

Cagliari midfielder Pasquale Foggia may miss out on Wednesday evening’s friendly against South Africa after picking up an eye injury in training.

The Lazio-owned star received his first Azzurri call for the Euro 2008 qualifier against Georgia last weekend and impressed as a substitute.

Foggia had been likely to start against the Bafana Bafana, but he had to seek treatment after clashing with Andrea Dossena and receiving a blow to the right eye.

“We have sent Foggia to an eye specialist to ascertain the extent of the injury and we should know then whether he can play on Wednesday,” Azzurri doctor Andrea Ferretti revealed.

Cristiano Lucarelli was the star of the training session as he hit a brace in a ten-a-side match with Cristian Zaccardo, Daniele De Rossi and Alessandro Rosina also on target.

I think you've picked him up wrong...he's refering to the 2-1 home game against Georgia...and what he said about the game was correct...at times they showed us how to play footie and passed us off the park...Beattie scored from a long way out at the death to win 2-1.

You're right enough. Just re-read what he said.

I still think Donadoni is an idiot though.
