Manuel de Brito Filho, or simply Obina (born January 31, 1983 in Bahia), is a Brazilian football striker currently playing for Flamengo.

Flamengo's supporters like to refer to him as the Brazilian Samuel Eto'o, a joke-reference to the Barça player. Some chants include "Deus perdoa, Obina não" (God forgives, Obina doesn't) and "Ô Ô Ô Obina é melhor que Eto'o" (Ho Ho Ho Obina is better than Eto'o).

He recovered his instincts for goals, lost since 2004, and was fundamental in helping the Rubro-Negro to win the 2006 Brazil Cup.

Obina has often been compared with the mythical Fio Maravilha for his folkloric charm. In fact, Kleber Leite, Director for Flamengo's Football Departament, once referred to him as being "culturally naive."

Obina agent denies Juve move

The agent of Brazilian striker Obina has denied that Juventus have made a bid for the player's services. The 23-year-old Flamengo striker rediscovered his goalscoring instinct this season and has been linked with another move abroad.

"I've had a chat with (sporting director) Kleber Leite and he told me that the club has neither received an offer nor had any discussions about Obina," Eduardo Uram told O Globo.

"Not Juventus from Italy or from any other club in Europe."

Obina rose to prominence at Vitoria before moving to Fluminese, where his career stalled, and after part of the 2004 season back at Vitoria he moved to Al Ittihad the season before last.

But he returned to Brazil in 2005 and has scored 22 times for Flamengo, firing them to Brazilan Cup glory.

"It is normal that such rumours should evolve about Obine because he's done well this season in Brazil."

Adriano who? The one season wonder at Parma? In my eyes he is not someone like "the next Zidane" or "the next Maradona". Adriano isn't a champion and he is too young to be referred to. He has yet to prove himself. To do that he has to overcome his dark period and become Inters empereror again. He also has to keep that title for many years in order to be a champion. So when I hear that Obina is called the next Adriano, I get ready to puke all over myself.
