Since adopting the black and white stripes from England in 1903, Juventus have enjoyed a strong relationship with Notts County.
The Magpies, the world’s oldest professional football club after being founded in 1862, provided the opposition for the memorable inauguration of Juventus Stadium on 8 September 2011, backed by 200 supporters from Nottingham.
The travelling contingent were given a warm welcome in Turin on that memorable evening, and saw Lee Hughes’ late equaliser draw appreciative applause from the home faithful.
And after forming plenty of new friendships during their brief stay in the Piedmont capital, last Saturday’s clash with Napoli brought another chapter of this fine alliance.
While the Magpies were in the process of extending their club record unbeaten away run to 14 games with a 2-1 success over Coventry, a group of six Notts County fans – Andy, Lisa, Paul, Lindy, Pete and Joshua – witnessed the Bianconeri go three points clear at the top of the table following a 2-0 win against their Scudetto rivals.
One of the travelling party, Pete Pacey, described his unforgettable weekend:
“We were met at the airport and driven around like celebrities by a very kind Giorgio Zunino. We watched from the stands as Juventus beat Napoli 2-0 and listened to the crowd sing their hearts out all the way through the game!
“On Sunday we were taken back to the ground to have a stadium tour and see the museum. The facilities at Juve are second to none. From the stadium to the back room, everything is just first class.”
