What happened?
Here's what happened, before Andy gets all postal and goes off and blames everything on Gary Bettman.

The gross revenue/salary structure in the three other major sports usually work like this.

Approximately 45-50% of gross revenues the teams take in in the NFL, NBA, and Major League Baseball go towards player salaries, thereby leaving enough money for ownership to pay staff, arena leases, and such, AND still come away with a profit.

HOWEVER, in the NHL, that figure of gross revenues going towards player salaries is a whopping 75%.

Doesn't leave much for anything else, now does it??

Paul, shut the hell up.

You didn't even know that England had a team in the World Junior Championships :D
No, I didnt because that side of the game is not coveered in this country... NHL is on the tv all the time.

Its not a matter of whether i like the game or not... I simply dont understand why someone would say i dont care about a sport and why should i care about a sport..

The former how do they know if they have never asked... the latter, why shouldnt i care??

I jus asked for an answer when someone made a statement about me

That's incredible. I'm not a big hockey fan myself either, but it's always a shame when something goes wrong in a popular sport. A cancellation of an entire season is just....
It stems from greed, but more so having idiots run the sport. Bettman was trying to feed hockey to places that did not care for it, and that caused the league to become imbalanced. Nobody could compromise, Bettman sat back with a nonchalant, who cares attitude, as he watched the mess he created finally go down the toilet.

None of that, I just figured you would care less about a sport like hockey. I just find it rather strange that you are glad that a sport you seemingly do not care about has been shut down.
Im sorry andy, but you cant make those assumptions about people... jus ask if you want to know.

Im not glad the sport has been shut down perse... Im glad this whole stupid affair has come to an end... Its jus ridiculous

What makes you think that it wasn't the owners' doing in pushing for a cancellation of the season at this point?

You are aware, I'm sure, that the owners built up quite a significant war chest in the event that this happens, and that they are actually losing LESS money by having the remainder of the season cancelled.

So the whole picture is something like this:

NFL clubs messed up badly by giving 75% of their revenues to the salaries of the players. Then Bettman tried to change this situation but miserably failed.

Or am I wrong?

That is correct Sergio, however this problem would not have started if teams that could not compete and not make profits never existed. There was just not enough money and stars to go around, and the owners wanted to solve their problems. Bettman should have never tried to expand the NHL.

Yeah, I heard Melrose talk about that on ESPN News and I agree. Some commentators say that the owners did not want to reach an agreement because it would save them money, so basically this season was doomed from the start.

Cops need reasons to arrest people now? Hmm ok. Just pretend im black .
Now, that really isnt funny......

Vinny cool, but he wont let me see his action pics and show me his weapons. So that sucks. Nothing worse than a responsible cop off duty and on
action pics ?? Check the "post your picture" thread for a pic, although it really isnt an "action"pic..............

NO HOCKEY FOR YOU!!!!!

Now, thats some funny shit, Serge !!:D

Something is VERY wrong with the fact that the owners are losing less money now, than they would be if the season was in full swing

These guys are getting paid DAMN good money to play a game. I dont have too much sympathy for them....

In fact, I dont think I'll be going to any games once they square things away in September, October, or whenever the hell they get things straightened out. These players are greedy, and they dont deserve MY money !!!

What owner wants to have a team, if all it does is lose money ???

Paul, I would like to hear your opinion on why the attendance at the Stadio Delle Alpi has fallen off over the past three years. Since you seem to travel to Turin regulary, I think you can offer some insight.

This is a post I found by a Romanista at Xtratime, in which he says the Triad and doping trial has led to Juventini not attending Juve matches of late. I would like to hear your opinion on this subject because you are basically a primary source.

[=Cacìni]Wether or not it is original I care little about. I am not here to make cheap shots, but to speak of something of something greatly fascinating and interesting in italian football. That is all. If it happens to double cross some old tire tracks, shame, but what do you want me to do? Scrap my ideas because someone has mentioned you have a low attendence average previously?

See, if you hadn't treated my post as the usual rant, you'd see how I adress precisely that subject. You could argue that, I guess, but it carries little credability with it for a number of reasons. Firstly we have to wonder, what makes a city 'football mad', as opposed to others? What distinguishes it? I find it hard to believe a city with population numbers surpassing the million has no interest in football whatsoever. But this is just speculation, or rather questions I raise in response to clarify the realms of the discussion.
My real argument is this:

97-98 - 47347
98-99 - 47164
99-00 - 42229
00-01 - 41273
01-02 - 40687
02-03 - 39771
03-04 - 34365
04-05 - 26145 (this season thus far)

As is clearly demonstrated by the numbers above, Torino apperantly was a 'football mad' city just the odd couple o'years ago. In the end of the 90's, you had nearly the double of what you have now. How can this be interpreted to be anything but a (for Juventus) deeply disturbing trend?
Sure, I guess you could argue til the cows come home that those odd 23000 people extra in the stands all moved out of town since 1999, there is no way for me to contradict that with anything other than common sense. But I, personally, cannot interpret the numbers as anything less than a decleration that the public is fed up with Moggi and Giraudo. They're tired of the doping - yes, yes, only the poor ol' Doc Agricola is guilty in the eyes if the law - but don't think for a second people don't see through that farce. People KNOW the management was well aware of what was going on, the players even testified to taking drugs in half time certain games (Zidane). So even if Juventus goes free in the eyes of the law (or drew at home, as they so arrogantly and nonchanlantly called it :yuck: ), the club has been sentenced. Not by opposing fans alone - even by your own fans in Italy. The numbers of attendence tells it all. There is NO other reason or aliby with which you can explain such a dramatic loss in attendence in such a short period of time. As I said earlier, Delle Alpi is in the same location it was when you had an average closing in on 50000, the team is just as succesfull as it was back then. No, it is a sentence by the public on the ways of the triade, and the dispicable way in which they conduct their business. I'm not saying this to start some kind of war of words, in fact I am utterly surprised you're not seeing this for what it is. It's all in front of you.

If you think that's helping your case, think again. Juventus will go down in history as the first great, big team no one was willing to pay to go see. Another milestone in the cabinet.

No need to strecth as far as pre-Moggi. I dug out the numbers of the last 6 years for you, and they are sufficiant to see the incrdible drop in figures as time progresses and the public becomes aware of what it is Moggi and the club has done to cheat their way to titles, risk players's health and lives etc etc.

It really is a shame if you think I would spend this much time just because I am jealous. I believe what I have stated here to be true, and I should only hope you're not blind enough to disregard from all of just because I don't happen to support Juventus. You don't have to agree, but at least don't rule it out without thinking it over properly.

Look at it this way Andy....

If the Roma players, and the Roma fans keep acting like retards, they will play every game behind closed doors, with no fans.....

WOW...same guy that claimed the refs caused his NFL team to lose week after week. He had some impact on the Pado-vano!
No, two different guys. Old guy who blamed the referees was a Polish guy named Kazmir, the father of my roommate in the universtiy years. I was talking about Harry, old Greek guy, with an unbelievable sense of humor and a penchant for telling the same stories over and over.
