Andy, watched some u-20 games on the tube...I was impressed with our boys and not just Freddy..we have guys with balls out there notably Rogers (sp?), Zizzo and Altimore...your thoughts?
We have a very talented U-20 side... if it wasn't for the water-logged pitch against Austria a week ago we would have easily owned those cunts. But unfortunately our skillful side could not handle the Austian midfield and defense with so much water on the pitch, and of course I wanted to break some windows after that.
People think Freddy will never make it in Europe, but I beg to differ... give him a side where the ball is played on the ground such as those in La Liga and he will be able to take on players with his skillful manuevers on the ground. If he signs for a Premier League side he will be wasted, for sure. He has talent... even I saw that but he just needs to get bigger and sign for the right side. Obviously he has talent and he even looked better than PATO this tournament.
Rogers was very good down the left-flank and what impressed me was his eagerness to take on players... we don't have many kids that have the balls to take on some of the best young players in the world, so he looks promising as fuck. Sal Zizzo was sick against Poland and Brazil where he mad several assists, but he went missing against Uruguay and Austria. However, he has the speed to make it at the highest level, that's for sure... he out-ran defenders while he had the ball like a race horse racing Paolo Maldini.
But my favorite player on the side is Michael Bradley... he never made even one mistake during the tournament and always played well. He's Bob Bradley's son, the new manager of the US NT, and he plays for Heerenveen. Bradley is in my opinion our best talent as he never sets a foot wrong in midfield and has the technique of Yoann Gourcuff.
What this U-20 side has is cohesion. They've known each other for years and this is very promising for the future. If our Nation's soccer federation is doing anything right, it's keeping the same core of youngsters together for quite a while. It just may pay off in the end.
But as for my comments... I'll tell you what. I don't think I have ever been so damn excited and hopeful for our nation's side, barring the match against Germany in 2002. So that sort of tells you something about the U-20's.
