Newly promoted AC Fiorentina have signed Japanese intenational Hidetoshi Nakata from cash-strapped Parma AC for an undisclosed fee.

Frustrating spell
The 27-year-old had a frustrating spell with the Gialloblù as he failed to establish himself following his €25m move from AS Roma in July 2001. He was loaned out to Bologna FC in January as Parma sought to cut their wage bill.

Fifth club
Fiorentina will be Nakata's fifth Serie A club since signing for AC Perugia in 1998, and he said: "I have been playing in Italy for the last six years but every time you change team, you have to restart from the very beginning. Fiorentina are a newly promoted side but they were among the best teams in Serie A in the past. The club's history and the beauty of the town were deciding factors in my decision."

Roma reunion
The midfield playmaker, who has signed a three-year deal, will link up with former Roma colleagues Gianni Guigou and Cristiano Lupatelli at the Stadio Artemio Franchi, after the pair both joined the Viola at the weekend.

Other signings
Uruguayan international Guigou, 29, arrives in Florence after spending last season on loan at AC Siena. The 26-year-old Lupatelli, meanwhile, was a free agent after reaching the end of his contract at Roma. Fiorentina have also signed the 20-year-old Nigerian playmaker Christian Obodo from Perugia
