I just saw "The Strangers", and usually movies that are gory dont bother me, but this movie was a bit disturbing....also knowing that its based on a true story
Its NOT based on a true story, they just said that to entice the weak minded masses, its a typical cheap hype thing, which they are copying from the Chain saw massacre.

And the movie SUCKED. It wasnt gory and more suspense, but it was totally lame. ESPECIALLY the ending which was laughable like its a parody.

Actually it is. It's based on an unsolved crime that is slightly related to the plot of a movie. The director got freaked out as a kid by some late night interaction with a stranger. Later he found out a bunch of houses in his neighborhood were robbed.
He combined that experience with Helter Skelter and boom got The Strangers. Apparently he had to revise the script because it was way too gory.

Either way, I didn't like the movie. It tried to play up as a psych thriller and didn't work out.

I don't get your comparison to Texas Chainsaw Massacre, the original or the remakes, it's really nothing like them.

Seriously, my sis like horror movies, so I watched for god knows why despite knowing it would suck, and Liv Tyler is decent enough eye candy, but it was beyond REALLY bad, done quickly by some hack who thought it was clever to recycle and copy cheap horror movie techniques that were already bad in themselves in the originals. The random psycho killers were LAME.

I mean, the movie starts out with a really laughable narrator with a deep voice, trying to scare you like you are 4 years old, and then the with red letters "based on a true story". Its funny, people only need to hear that to believe it, not thinking for a second its the oldest marketing trick for horror movies.

Every horror movie is based on some "true story". The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is based on a "true story", which doesn't include any events that happen in the movie or even take place in Texas.

Not the be overly cynical, its a lame ploy.

The movie was suspenseful enough in parts, and bonus for not relying on gory crap, even if it fell flat in overall. But the killers, when Liv tyler asked why you are doing this...how lame wasnt it that she got the answer: "because you were home..." I mean, really? :D

Btw, why the heck did she survive those multiple stab wounds?

I never said I like the movie. I just didn't think it resembled the Texas Chainsaw Massacre and wanted to point out that Hollywood throws around the "based on a True Story" label like a pack of bubble gum. Even Fargo was billed as a true story back in '96.

Actually your claims aren't cynical. They are basically the same claims those that wrote negative reviews had. The director did will to build up suspense and capture the fear of being secluded. But there was little character development, the characters were stupid (made all the typical mistakes), and on top of that the plot and back story were very weak.

As for the "because you were home" line, that's probably one of the strongest parts in the film. The idea that a killer would kill not based on obsession, revenge, or madness but merely "just cause". Is quite ingenious. It shows the villain's as inhuman and random which is something people fear. Everyone wants to know why. Depriving the audience of reason was a good idea.

As for the ending, I thought she died. The Mormons found them and I turned it off. If she did live, maybe they were leaving the door open for a sequel. I don't know how, but it did gross just under $60 million so I guess anything is possible.

She WOKE up at the last second, screaming at the mormon kids. I intepreted as she lived, but now you mention it, she died prolly, and that scream was sort of a last gasp thing, because the beginning when the mormon kids call in finding them, they say they have found two dead bodies, not one dead and one alive.

But didnt think of it because the scream was pretty lame...

And good point on the random evilness of it. But there was so much hoopla build up to the end, and finally seeing the killers after the in the shadows cat and mouse game that was 90% of the movie, so one expected some elaborate attempt of explaining the psycho wannabe killers. But then they just say that, nothing else.

... Kirsten Dunst ...
I've never quite gotten that. By actress standards, she's not terribly pretty.

A couple of good friends of mine are big fans of wwtdd.com, which is basically celebrity gossip and pictures of actresses in bikinis - take a look; the front page is representative of the stuff they do.

I've had a bunch of Dunst stories forwarded to me, usually about something horrifyingly egotistical she's said. The site used to refer to Dunst as "Snaggletooth". Then they gave up on that, and just started to refer to her as simply, "The Monster".

I'm not interested in celebrity gossip, and I've always had a bit of a problem with the media picking on someone like that, but those nicknames have always amused me.

Remember they weren't wannabes as they at least killed one. :D But yeah for as much at the movie was hyped you expect a lot more than was delivered.

I watched Batman-The dark knight

It is nothing that i expected. There was so much dust covering the movie, like its the best Batman and stuff like that but now, after i saw it, i am very much disapointed. Batman is made to look like a p**sy and the movie is more about The Joker and the other characters than it is about Batman. Plus for an action movie (which are supposed to be hour and a half or two hours long) 3+ hours is toooooooo looooooong.
