Didnt enjoy the hateful 8 as much the 2nd time round. Lost alot of the suspense as i knew what was gling to happen which left the large amount of talking kind of boring. The final 2 chapters were still very enjoyable though. Plenty of funny quotes to take from it.

Watched it today, yeah a little bit too much talking but i still enjoyed it. It's not easy to make a movie that takes place in one location and keep it interesting for almost 3(!) hours. Loved the scene where

Kurt Russel realizes the letter is not real.
Looked like he had offended his ancestors :D

Were there any notable black performances that were omitted? I really don't watch enough movies to know.

I hope it's neither a case of racism or an argument for inclusion for the sake of it. The best should always be nominated.

You could make a case for Will Smith for Concussion, Michael B. Jordan in Creed, Idris Elba for Beasts of No Nation, the boy in Beasts of No Nation and perhaps Eazy E in Straight Outta Compton.

The problem is that there is no "best". You can't judge acting objectively, so your personal favorite performances are always going to reflect your cultural background and what you relate to. Personally, I wouldn't have nominated any of the names mentioned above, with the possible exception of the boy in Beasts of no Nation, but people of different background might have. So the problem is not so much that Idris Elba or Will Smith wasn't nominated, but rather the fact that the Oscar academy is 94% caucasian, 77% male with an median age of 62. Obviously, the Academy demographics in itself might not seem interesting, but the fact that it's a reflection of the movie industry in general is. So hopefully the new changes will mean more diversity, not only in the Oscar academy, but in the movie industry in general.

So basically out with the old guys, in with modern experts. Isn't the CEO a black woman though? :D
Yes, she is. That's probably the reason why changes are happening. :D But honestly, I think it's pretty fair to get rid of the members who haven't worked in the industry for a decade.

On an unrelated note, someone made a movie about Barack and Michelle Obama's first date. :sergio:

Idris Elba and the young black dude from Beasts of No Nation were the only ones worthy of a nomination imo. It does suck that the academy is made up mostly of old white men but i dont believe it is a race issue or anyone should boycott the ceremony for these reasons. The african american people who are pissed should take a look at themselves and ask themselves why they are not producing good enough movies or actors.

I checked out Straight Outta Compton the other day, and it was pretty good, I remember the kids in my primary school having crews and writing NWA stuff everywhere, so it was pretty damn real, but there were not really any outstanding performance in the movie, the best part was to see Pac recording California Love/Hail Mary..Paul Giamatti I thought performed better than the rest, and he is white too #oscarsowhite

I thought that was a pretty cheesy performance actually.

I liked the guy who played Ice Cube (his son I think), but nothing Oscar-worthy.

Paul Giamatti is always borderline overacting. :D I definitely thought Eazy E was the standout. His character had more range than the rest. The way he handled the emotional hospital scenes without overacting was great.
