Brazilian starlet Cabelino Maxwell has refused a new contract at Ajax and the Italian Press believes a deal with Juventus could be struck in January.

The full-back’s current contract with the Dutch giants expires in June, so he will be a free agent in the summer and can negotiate with other clubs from the New Year.

It’s believed he already has a move to Juve lined up on a four-year deal worth £1.7m per season and he can thrash out the details for the 2005-06 agreement in January.

Maxwell has long been linked with a change of scenery and was linked to the likes of Milan, Manchester United, Inter and Real Madrid.

The 24-year-old Brazilian is reportedly eager to test himself out in Serie A and is a versatile player who can also play on the left side of midfield.

Coach Fabio Capello is said to be happy with the prospect of signing another of Ajax’s talented youngsters after snapping up Zlatan Ibrahimovic last summer.

Meanwhile, Empoli are also lining up a Brazilian newcomer after picking up Criciuma hitman Eder. The young forward had been in negotiations with Fiorentina and it’s believed the Viola have an option to take the player once he has settled in to Serie A.

Eder is said to have cost Empoli £350,000 and he will touch down in Tuscany during the January transfer window. He'll turn 19 later this month and is already an Under-20 international. He had a trial period with Lecce last season, scoring seven goals in as many friendly appearances.

Maybe Chiellini is leaving Juve... making weight for Cassano? It's possible.

Can Juve play with Maxwell and Zambrotta at the same time?

We dont need him!!!
We have Chiellini and Zambro!

I think we need much more a very good rightback, like Sagnol!

Yea he would but he's more of a defensive type of player
If we were playing with 3-4-1-2 or 3-5-2, he would fit perfectly in the formation but seeing to it with Cap's boring tactic (4-4-2), he fits no where in the picture except as a Left Fullback.

We don't need a Maxwell right now IMO, lots of options available in the team in the form of Chiellini, Zambrotta and Pessotto who can all play left back and on the wing if necessary (yes even our dear Gianluca).

I'd only spend on a winger if he represented a significant improvement over Nedved; Maxwell doesn't fill those shoes.

i dont think pessotto should be mentioned. and its obvious capello is going to start moving zambrotta around to help fix the right back area. maxwell is a good player and would be a better option than chiellini for left back.

The key thing to this transfer could be Mino Raiola, Maxwell's agent, as he is both Nedved and Ibrahimovic's agent as well.

Maxwell hasn't played all season, due to a long-term injury, but is a good player nonetheless. Getting him would be a bit of an overkill though, as we're already well covered for that leftback spot. As for playing him on the left of the midfield, that would only limit any runs (even further) for Chiellini or Zambrotta. I would not say he is better than any of them, Maxwell's defensive skills need a lot of polishing.

With the current fullbacks, it's better to have attacking midfielders that do not stick to the sidelines too much.

I agree, if we were to get a fullback, we best get one that can play both left and right sided like zambro and pessoto, that way we rotate batter.

We don't have a natural RB at the moment and zebina seems to be the new sicknote for this season.

Maxwell and Zambrotta as fullbacks would be suicide, unless we suddenly start playing a formation which requires super-attacking fullbacks.

Maxwell is more of the Mancini type, he can play as defender but is much better going forward, atleast from the few games I've seen the guy.

It seems we are linked with wide players. But Maxwell is not really someone Im interested in seeing at Juve.
