Exactly. A 70m move with high salary kills the expectations, like it did when we signed Ronaldo, and De Ligt, and then signed a bunch of freebies on high salary to patch up the rest of the holes.
By the way Inda is linked with Gosens. Perisic's contract is about to expire and they address that weakness immediately. That's how Beppe does it.
Get a grip, man. C’mon. We can all acknowledge Sandro is finished, Pellegrini is not really improving, and MdS who has actually been quite good at LB (but poor at RB) is too injury prone. But signing players requires offloading others, and until we can move a high wage earner like Sandro out of the club we won’t be signing a top LB. Isn’t going to happen. And that has nothing to do with Vlahovic, who we probably wouldn’t be getting right now if we couldn’t move Morty.

And the same goes for midfield. We won’t be bringing in a top level CM until we move another.

Is that what you get from what I wrote? That I want us to sign Gosens?
I don’t wanna repeat myself over and over. You know where I stand.

I know where you stand, but we needed reinforcements now to try to make sure we have the tools for a top 4 finish. If we can’t offload a LB, we aren’t signing a Gosens or whoever else. If we can’t offload Arthur or Ramsey we aren’t signing a top CM. And this is assuming that there are top CMs available right now.

Because of Vlahovic’s contract only having 18 months left and Viola being desperate to get a good fee for him, he is a top 3 young striker in the world available at a reasonable fee. It’s a position of need and also an opportunity, as well as us being able to offload Morty it seems. Everything aligned to make this transfer a smart, doable, long term one.

There is always a possibility that we will be penny phincing again in other holes after spending almost all our budget transfer. That could be the case too. Beany and bene are newbies in managing football club at top level. Mistake like this could happen.

But i hope it's not the case

When we signed Locatelli the only midfielder we offloaded was Fagioli who hardly ever played. If rumors of crippled Aaron being frozen out is true we already have lost a midfielder. I’m excited to see Vlahovic play for us, but if we didn’t sign anybody else it is really because we didn’t want to. Finding 70m out of nowhere is harder than freezing out deadwood.

Freezing out Ramsey doesn’t free up his 7 mil net wages, ya know. We’re reducing our wage bill and that seems to be an ongoing process even after Ronaldo. And before you bring up Vlahovic for 7 mil, first off forwards are the highest paid players in the sport, secondly we’re freeing up Morty’s 5mil net wages which covers a lot of it. Thirdly, the bang for buck of Vlahovic scoring 20+ league goals a season at 7 mil, is far better value than Morty scoring ~10 league goals/season.

Anyways, we have no idea what CMs are even available this winter mercato, and what sort of cost would be required to get them. Lots of teams don’t sell important players in January. There’s no point in judging the effect of this transfer on other transfers until we see what we do in the summer.
