He's in poor form but also I see a bit of disappointment for the same thing happening over and over during his career. It's understandable, they are not machines.
He's a good player, definitely a very good backup CF to have, in theory.
But IMO he's caught up too much on that "grinta" hype. He simply spends much more energy chasing guys than actually moving and offering something on offense. It's eye popping how he never gets himself in dangerous positions in the box, and he must focus on that.
The pressing down should only be gravy on top of his main task, and he's inverting this logic, and it's not good.
Just hope he can adapt to the new situation and be able to offer something again.
But in all honesty, I thought and still think Zaza would be a better suited bench CF. He offers different characteristics that would complete better Higuain's, when subbing him off.
