I'm not sure how you can, in any dimension, imagine Pereyra getting a chance to start ahead of a fit Khedira. I mean, Pereyra might get Coppa starts or starts to rest Khedira (if Asamoah is needed on the wings after our mercato). But Pereyra start over Khedira? That is just insanity. Khedira is leaps and bounds a better player. He is no project player, he is no promising youngster. He is a WC winning, top 10 club starting midfielder material, international mainstay player.

Pereyra had a decent year. Was a great surprise. He is not starting over Khedira.

Pereyra is not close to Khedira. It's not close. That doesn't mean Pereyra is dogshit. It means he's still young and developing. But to think we took a former starting midfielder from Real Madrid, will pay him 4m a season, and sit him behind a player who (in his best season) showed less and did less is not very realistic.

If anybody is underrating and overrating here, it is anybody saying Pereyra somehow "Earned" a starting place over a top 10 midfielder worldwide in Khedira because Pereyra somehow had an amazing season for us last year. He had a good year. But he didn't suddenly breakout and cement his place in our starting 11 from last year. Not even remotely.

I see Khedira more as a Marchisio type player. Tactically intelligent complete player, thats very good at supporting players around him, whilst maintaining a great defense and organisation.

He's rather slow, so shouldnt be used as full out box to box mid in my opinion


Khedira-Marchisio is currently amonst the best holding mid pairs in the world on paper.
