The 21-year-old is a deep-lying playmaker, who orchestrates the play from in front of the defence, and his style and ability has led to him being labelled by some as the 'new Andrea Pirlo’.

Cigarini is admired by a whole host of top clubs, but Juventus and Inter had been seen as the two favourites for his signature.

However Controcampo claims that Juventus are set to win the race as Coach Claudio Ranieri has already held talks with the youngster and an agreement is close to being reached.

Parma value Cigarini at £8m, and although Juve are only willing to pay £5m, an agreement shouldn’t be too hard to find.

If Juventus complete the classy schemer’s signature in January, it is possible he will be loaned back to Parma for the remainder of the season.

Cigarini is a current member of the Italy Under-21 set-up and has represented his country at every youth level from Under-18 upwards.

He was part of the same Parma academy which has also produced fellow promising stars Daniele Dessena and Daniele Paponi.

I know is Tribal , but what the hell:

Juventus forced to wait for Parma over Cigarini deal
tribalfootball.com - January 15, 2008

Juventus are waiting on Parma to make a decision over the sale of midfielder Luca Cigarini.

Corriere dello Sport says terms have already been agreed over the Italy U21 international, but Parma want to find a replacement before they allow Cigarini to leave in January.

Sampdoria midfielder Sergio Volpi and Fiorentina's Michele Pazienza top Parma's shopping list. If they cannot secure a new midfield signing, then Parma will hang onto Cigarini until the summer before allowing him to move to Juve.

it might happen. as Lucarelli is set to sign loan deal to Parma

Lucarelli prepares for Parma
Tuesday 15 January, 2008
Unsettled Azzurri striker Cristiano Lucarelli is closing in on a loan deal with Parma, according to Press reports.

The former Livorno hero hasn’t adapted to life in Ukraine’s Vyscha Liha since signing for Shakhtar Donetsk in the summer and is hoping to return to his natural habitat of Serie A as soon as possible.

A number of sides, including Genoa and Torino have been considering moves for the No 99, but the fee that Shakhtar are demanding for his loan coupled with Lucarelli’s wage demands have made any agreement impossible.

Parma are looking for a marksman to help fire them away from the relegation dogfight and seem to have become tired of waiting for the return of injured ace Igor Budan.

It is believed that the Ducali will pay £1.2m immediately to secure Lucarelli until the end of the season and will have the option to make the transfer permanent for a further £2m.

The 32-year-old is expected to be in Parma today with agent Carlo Pallavicino to put pen to paper and could be officially unveiled within the next 48 hours.

Good young talent. Ranieri liked him when he coached Parma but we already have young players like him. Dessena who's a bit stronger than the kids we have at midfield would be a better fit IMO and scores a bit more than them but is not really a priority.
At least he's better than Sissoko :eyebrows:
