What results do you get from matlab, then, just plain columns of numbers that you have to post-process or do you get "everything" done in matlab?

I can look at the raw data, plot it or output it to a file. Given that anything written in C is almost by definition faster, I'll use Matlab mostly to test an idea rather than to do the heavy duty number crunching.
