The Bianconeri put last year’s European champions to the sword with a barnstorming performance in front of a packed out crowd at Juventus Stadium.
Despite the Blues edging out the hosts in the possession stakes with 53% of the ball, Juventus represented a constant attacking threat over the 90 minutes and looked like scoring whenever they crossed the halfway line.
Having survived the initial onslaught from Conte’s men, Chelsea eventually fell behind to Fabio Quagliarella’s opener seven minutes before the interval, the striker’s second in two games against the Londoners.
But the Bianconeri refused to sit on their lead, piling forward in numbers to record 26 shots on goal, calling Cech into action on 15 occasions. His counterpart, Gigi Buffon, enjoyed a relatively quiet night in comparison, tested just six times throughout the course of the game.
Both sides are famed for their crisp, accurate passing and last night was no exception, with Juventus completing 73% of their passes, compared to Chelsea’s 71%.
