There has been just one previous Champions League meeting between Juventus and Chelsea in Turin.
Both sides met in the last 16 of the 2008/09 campaign, sharing the spoils in a 2-2 draw at the Stadio Olimpico.
After Vincenzo Iaquinta had given the Bianconeri an early lead, Michael Essien struck back in first half injury time, paving the way for an intriguing second period.
With Juventus requiring a win to keep their Champions League campaign alive following Chelsea’s 1-0 first-leg triumph at Stamford Bridge, Claudio Ranieri’s side committed men forward after the interval.
Alessandro Del Piero restored the advantage from the penalty spot, only for Didier Drogba to secure the Blues’ safe passage through to the quarter-finals with seven minutes remaining.
The current Juventus squad boasts four survivors from that encounter (Buffon, Chiellini, Marchisio and Giovinco), while Chelsea have five (Cech, Terry, Cole, Mikel and Lampard).
