Anybody remember this match?

The other day I was browsing through my collection of old Juventus matches, found this gem, and decided to put this one in my VCR for my viewing pleasure. This was a pretty interesting match considering the league position we were in at the time -- if I recall correctly, six points behind Roma, just a year after we squandered a nine point advantage in 2000.

We were running the 3-4-1-2 under Carlo and had the Zidane e Davids connection in midfield, probably my favorite midfield duo in the history of the game because they were just so sly and smooth. I also loved big Igor Tudor in that team, scoring off the Del Piero cross for the first goal, celebrating through some fist-pumping action that still sends me into oblivion even today. That was a pretty cool team. Shame we didn't win much.

Hopefully the combination of Melo and Diego can provide that creativity and slyness we have missed throughout the past 8 years.

Anyways, I just wanted to highlight that match before we begin the new season. Hopefully we learned some lessons from those point differentials in 2000 and 2001.

You sure we played with a 3 man defense Andy? My memory isn't good like that, I hardly remember last year's matches :D

They were in every sense of the words. Sick players.

    I sure am.

    VDS

    Ferrara - Montero - Tudor

    Birindelli - Tacchinardi - Davids - Pessotto

    Zidane

    Del Piero - Rat

That's exactly how we lined up. Biri and Professor were playing as wing backs and wingers the whole game, really showed some great stamina.

    Kahn

    Linke - Anderson - Kuffour

    Sagnol - Hargreaves - Effenberg - Lizarazu

    Hasan - Scholl

    Elber

Pretty sick team, really. Nothing outstanding but all solid.

Indeed, end of that season. I was devastated because that was the first season I could watch Juve [somewhat] regularly. I was pretty pissed off at my young age, but then I quickly realized it was for the good of the team, and it worked well in the end.

I think I witnessed the best ever 0-0 draw I've ever seen as well that year, Parma vs. Juve some time during the Winter. I remember that match being extremely exciting but nobody could put that shit in the net. Trezegoal came on and Appiah was playing.

can't remember all that now, can't even remember that 3-0 against Milan, my memory is bad. From the old days I can't forget those two finals, ever.. 1997, and 1998, Dortmund and Real Madrid. :depressed: I remember I was recording it on VCR, when the referee blow the final whistle, I took the cassette out, and threw it out from the window

Sorry to ruin your thread :D

Yeah, well, I didn't take 2003 very well either. Broken lamps, tears and swearing were the main events that day.

Back in 1998 when I first saw Juve I had no idea what was going on... not on a football rules level, but on a "what the hell is this tournament" level. I started to realize around 2000. I was 13 in '98.

Good for me I saw the earlier days too, when we had Baggio, Vialli and Ravanelli :touched: TV coverage sucked those days, I rarely watched football. I was pissed when I heard we sold Baggio then to replace him with a kid called Del Piero :D

Damn I just realized I am a Juve fan for 16 years

Man, the first match from Europe I ever saw was the 1998 Final, so that is pretty whack. Perhaps they just showed it because the World Cup was coming up. I missed all those glory days.

Baggio was my first favorite player. After 1994 I went to the soccer shoppe here and got his Yellow stripe Diadoras for my new season, couldn't live without them. That guy was my idol. '94 was the first year I heard about Juve, but not knowing much, I didn't really care or follow up. I didn't even hear he left Juve until 1998. But watching Juve for the first time in '98 and hearing about that cool name for a few years before got me hooked.

He was cool as shit. One of the best players ever to watch. I could even realize that as a 9 year-old.
