Chelsea get Mutu compensation nod

Chelsea have been given the green light by the Premier League appeals committee to seek compensation following Adrian Mutu's move to Juventus.
The Blues are seeking to recover £8m of the £16m they paid Parma for the Romanian, who was sacked last October after testing positive for cocaine.

Chelsea say the striker, now with Juventus, broke his contract by persistent misconduct.

The 26-year-old striker is serving a worldwide ban which expires in May.

Although Mutu is Chelsea's opponent in the case, if any damages were awarded, they would be payable by Juventus.

The matter could now be referred to Fifa, and it is possible Chelsea could even take the matter to a civil court.

A statement from the Premier League read: "The appeals committee concluded that the conduct of the player in taking banned drugs was gross misconduct which entitled the club to treat the player's contract as at an end and amounted to a unilateral breach without just cause or sporting just cause.

"The club is therefore entitled to proceed to seek compensation and sporting sanctions from the dispute resolution chamber (DRC) of Fifa."

We dont have to pay anything yet, this just means they have the right to ask for it before a higher court or FIFA.

The Premier league have no power over the Italian league and can go the hell as can Chelsea if they think they can have any money.

It's sick, nobody forced Chelsea to sack Mutu afterall.

This is really stupid. How can they ask for compensation when they sacked him? They could have kept him... It's not like his life as a football player had to end because chelsea sacked him, he has a right to sign for another team...

They have nothing on us, i believe they ask a part of the salary wich was paid in advance to mutu,
they sould consider this before they throw him away,
now they are too far away from the cash register and without receipt.
I hope they arent soo almighty to make us pay other people's debts

No, but if FIFA takes Chelski's side he can get a worldwide ban.

Chelsea chase Mutu compensation Wednesday 20 April, 2005

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Chelsea have been given permission by the Premier League to seek compensation over Adrian Mutu’s move to Juventus.

The Stamford Bridge outfit, who sacked Mutu in October after he tested positive for cocaine, are looking to net around £8m of the £15.7m transfer fee they handed over to Parma for the player.

Even though the Blues are taking on Mutu in the case, Juventus would have to pay any possible damages following his capture in January.

FIFA could now be asked to intervene in the case or Chelsea may take the action to a civil court.

Chelsea were given the green light on Wednesday after the League's appeals committee heard evidence from boss Jose Mourinho, chief executive Peter Kenyon, a Juventus representative and Mutu himself.

"The appeals committee concluded that the conduct of the player in taking banned drugs was gross misconduct, which entitled the club to treat the player's contract as at an end and amounted to a unilateral breach without just cause or sporting just cause," read a statement from the Premier League.

"The club is therefore entitled to proceed to seek compensation and sporting sanctions from the dispute resolution chamber (DRC) of FIFA."

The 26-year-old is currently serving a world-wide ban and won’t be eligible to play until next month – for Juve’s last two games of the season.

Although Chelsea sacked the former Inter forward, they insist he broke his contract by breaching the terms of his contract.

This is the first time that an outfit has looked to gain compensation from a player after his dismissal.

I can understand that Chelsea sue Mutu for a breach of contract. After all, his fault (taking coke as a football player is quite a fault) is a loss for Chelsea.

But WHAT HAVE JUVE TO DO WITH THAT?? we signed himl after he was sacked. we didn't participate in his drug taking ( unless moggi...). we only signed a free player.

anyway, wasn't Livorno involved in the deal? they sould pay haha

Yeah, but do you see FIFA doing that? I'm not sure they would, and Chelsea aren't UEFA/FIFA's favourite club right now. We certainly hold more power than them and that counts for something.

That is true, but noone knows what will happen if Chelsea take it to a civil court.

I just have a really hard time with Chelsea, especially after all their recent antics - and it's not like they need the money either (not that I think it matters to them in this case), they're being extremely vindictive toward Mutu.

I hate fvcking Chelsea oh so much. Their douche of an owner has all the money in the world and they still want a little compensation for the player they sacked themselves. What a bunch of fvcks.
