All-Italian Milan as Plan B
By Football Italia staff

Silvio Berlusconi has hinted that if negotiations for a takeover of Milan fail, the Rossoneri will embark on a project of Italianisation as a Plan B.

Club owner Berlusconi is currently negotiating with Thai and Chinese investors over the sale of the San Siro giants, but suggests that there is an alternative plan should discussions fail.

“If these negotiations do not have the desired result we will go ahead with another project, that of an all-Italian Milan,” Berlusconi is quoted as having said to Primocanale.

The Corriere dello Sport has outlined the steps that would be taken by the club should Berlusconi remain in charge and seek to create an all-Italian club.

The paper believes that the sales of Diego Lopez, Keisuke Honda and Jeremy Menez would bring in the necessary funds to begin the construction of a new squad.

The sale of these three players is believed to be worth around €20m and Monaco have expressed an interest in signing Menez.

A few exceptions could be allowed, such as goalkeeper Gabriel who has been on loan at newly promoted Carpi this season.

Should the Plan B be implemented, it is also possible that Coach Pippo Inzaghi could remain on the Rossoneri bench for another season.

Like the idea, but i don't think they will get a better team. But is really like Berlusconi's 'all-Italian' idea. Look at Fiorentina, Napoli, Inter too many foreigners.

We should offer to let them play a season with our Primavera. As a courtesy for a team in need.

Selling Menez would be down right stupid of Milan. A plan to build a competitive squad predicated on Italian nationalism makes no sense. I guess the theory is that relatively unknown Italian talent is more affordable and that a fully Italian squad would be a more cohesive one. In practice that's probably rubbish. I can't think of any success stories about clubs implementing a radical idea such as that.

I actually don't mind that Plan B from Milan. There are lots of decent Italian players around the league. Young ones too. I think it's a much better strategy to bring in young, hungry Italians than slow, over the hill, disinterested, imports. Menez was a fine signing, the rest have been shit.

I look at a player like Sturaro who we paid a decent sum for but nothing extra-ordinary. Players like that would be great for Milan. Those are the players that can help you get results over 38 games when you don't have European competition to think about. Then if you can squeak a 3rd place finish and get some CL revenue you can start to build out your squad.

These teams need to just go back to basics. Build hard teams to break down. Tough, counter attacking teams. They'll pull results. Milan and Inter are just throwing shit at the wall and seeing what sticks.
