not sure how to reconcile those two
They stepped quite high up the pitch when Milan had possession, but didn't push players forward as aggressively when they had the chance to attack.
There were plenty times when they had good possession in wide areas in thefirst half, but they never got the players up in support to turn a decent position into a situation where they could really look to trouble Milan.
Inter had to consider the possibility of being taken on the counter after all, they couldn't just throw everything forward without risking their asses being handed to them at the back.
All in all, for all their possession and seeming superiority in the 1st half, Inter were contained quite well by Milan, who even then had more goal chances while Inter's only memorable opportunity - and the goal came after a free kick.
Inter were playing three CBs.
When you do that, you only need to leave one midfielder back and pretty much everyone else can push on without any great fears of being caught on the break.
As it was, Stankovic stayed deep with Motta and Sneijder and Alvarez didn't get close enough to Eto'o to give him a chance to do anything.
How did Inter plan to score?
Were they just hoping to nick a goal from a mistake or a set piece like they did? They never looked capable of doing anything else because their movement was largely non-existent.
