You maybe right. The draw for 4th qualifying round was made day after 3rd round was played so yes they saw him on videos 
As far as i know his agent once said for our sports newspaper that he offered dvd with his matches to many Italian clubs including Milan but Palermo was the most interested and that's why they got him..
I totally agree with your last part. Even if he would scored hattrick against us, we wouldn't buy him.
On the other hand Palermo are now interested in one of the best if not the best defender in Slovenian first league right now, Siniša Anđelković. He's playing for Maribor just like Iličić and Bačinovič did. Zahovič, director of sport in nk Maribor, said that the offer was interested but not good enough. They're saying something about 1,1 to 1,5m €.. We'll see

Juve were on 27 points after 14 rounds last season - 3 better than this season
Point? There's still plenty of room for repeat of last years feat...
Although even with the wins last season - we never seemed as "solid" and organised in the first 14 rounds - though this season has already contained too many draws.

Here's a deeper comparison which includes all the other post-Calciopoli seasons.
2007/08 --- 26 points (7-5-2 -- 29:13) 3rd place, 5 pts behind the leaders Inter and Roma.
2008/09 --- 27 points (8-3-3 -- 21:9) sharing 2nd place, 6 pts behind the leaders Inter.
2009/10 --- 27 points (8-3-3 -- 26:15) 3rd place, 8 pts behind the leaders Inter.
2010/11 --- 24 points (6-6-2 -- 26:14) sharing 3rd place, 6 pts behind the leaders Milan

Looking at the numbers, we're having more or less the same start of the season in all 4 years. We're top 3 all the time, we're 5-8 pts behind the leaders and we have between 24-27 points. Still, this particular season is our worst points wise and the goal difference is what keeps us in top 3, unlike the previous three seasons when we were clear in the top 3.
