I noticed so far that referees (in every game) are making much less calls for fouls and their making the game flow. Unlike previous years when referees were giving fouls for every single touch (which was killing the rhythm).

Do you guys think that the level of football played in the opening serie A rounds is higher than what we're used to?
I'm talking mostly about the rhythm of the games which is faster than ever. Or is it just my (wrong) impression?

It has indeed been a faster tempo than the previous years.

You should watch more midtable serie A games, they are usually like that..

Edit: same goes for the upsets, its been like that for years.

There were times when I had to watch as more possible serie A games. I was predicting Serie A matches for money and I needed to watch, read and know everything. The tempo was rarely as fast as at the beginning of this season, no matter who played.

The difference in quality between the big and the minnows becoming smaller will result with more exciting matches and more upsets, but I don't think it has much to do with the tempo of the game.

Plus i agree with what The Boz just said about the lower teams are closing the gap with the top teams....

Top teams are closing the gap with lower teams as well. Serie A is gravitating towards equilibrium.

Totti blasts Roma catenaccio

Roma captain Francesco Totti believes it was wrong for his side to play catenaccio against Bayern Munich last night.

The Giallorossi were happy to sit back and soak up the pressure at the Allianz Arena, rarely threatening their opponents.

Bayern scored two late goals through Thomas Mueller and Miroslav Klose, which put the game beyond Roma's reach.

“We played the old catenaccio,” Totti said. “We defended for the entire game, not even having a shot on goal.

“You can't play this way. We faced a great team. But now we must improve to get back to being protagonists in Italy and in Europe.”

Roma are back in action this weekend when they host Bologna.

Actually they were better than Bayern in the 1st half. They played a decent football for only the first 45min. They looked exhausted in the 2nd half.

They defended well, but they didn't keep the ball enough to relieve the pressure, so they just got pushed further and futher back until a goal was inevitable.

They also didn't have any pace up front, which meant it was virtually impossible for them to offer a threat on the break.

They should have played Menez instead of Borriello or Totti.
