[FONT=Arial,Helvetica,Geneva,Swiss,SunSans-Regular]The President of the Italian Olympic Committee Gianni Petrucci insists the nation's football clubs must respect a new ruling to cap the number of foreign players.

Last week, the Italian Football Federation announced a decision to lower the number of non-EU players clubs could sign each season from two to one.

The move drew criticism from Milan, Palermo and Lazio to name but a few Serie A clubs who feel they are being punished for Italy's exit from the World Cup.

“I don't want to argue with the President of the League, Maurizio Beretta, but I confirm that the decision on the reduction of the number of non-EU players taken in the FIGC's last federal counsel must be respected.

“CONI already undertook this path towards a progressive reduction in the number of non-EU athletes eight years ago, but not we are looking forward not back.”

They are idiots...

What's the difference between non-EU players and EU but not Italian ones?

I don't see how this is going to help the Italian calcio :shifty:

We that always had Italians in the clubs and "helped" the NT are now penalized by this rule while others with no Italians can buy as many Argentinians as they want with Italian passports.

Great rule dummies!!!

The FIGC must shoulder all of the blame for Italy's poor WC. This move just smacks of a knee jerk reaction because they want to be seen as doing something.

If they were really concerned about the quality and quantity of young Italian footballers, they need a more balanced, thought out long term plan. This will have little or no positive effect
