stats paint a picture on a clean canvas with all things being equal. yes, they may not take into account that a key defender for a team may be out of the line up or that the game is a heated rivalry but its as accurate as scientific studies within a controlled environment or a vacuum for example.

Yeah, seen those couple of weeks back (mainly check that site to keep track of assists), didnt know Balzaretti was that high up, good for him. But yeah, as I said, those players are the best for the offensive passes, and IMO only offensive passes should be valued, as they rightfully are prolly.

stats do measure a players skill, otherwise how can one rate skill?

Stats do give tell-tale sign on the capability of a player.

Take the NBA for example,
A good defensive players usually have high percentage in defensive rebounds and block shots while good field goal % and pts per game tell u that the guy is an offensive player ...
Those with high assist meant they are playmakers with good vision ...

IMO, u need a combination of a few stats to tell u what kind of player he is. Zidane will probably have alot of passes cos most of the play will go through him and also many assist for his ability to create space for himself and find goal scoring chances for teammates ...

Kind of minimize risk in mercato .... However, its not always fool-proof, things can still go wrong. Like for e.g. Ricardo Oliveira. He was doing nothing wrong in Real Betis but he flopped at Milan ...

There is not a single juve player in the top 30 for offensive or defensive passes....really shows our long ball tactics been working i guess...sheesh
