Serie A Team Of The Week: Round 38
Goal.com provides a brief list of those who deserved a place in the sun after the Serie A Round 38 action. As every week there were more players who deserved a place than places available...
Team of the week (4-3-3):
Matteo Sereni (Torino): At least six decisive saves before finally succumbed to Osvaldo in the final minutes. He might even have just guaranteed himself a place in Roberto Donadoni’s final list for Euro 2008.
Maicon (Inter): Constantly attacking on the right hand side and that is where Inter caused most of the problems to the Parma defence. Best wing-back in Serie A.
Alessandro Gamberini (Fiorentina): Very diligent in defence as he blocked the Torino attacks; has been a key component in the Viola's defence all season and finished accordingly.
Matias Silvestri (Catania): Played the game of his life and despite Vucinic scoring that early goal, still managed to be the best player for his side on the day.
Philippe Mexes (Roma): Confident display and the only Roma defender to really deserve credit against Catania, especially when the pressure was piling on in the final minutes.
Patrick Vieira (Inter): Has been fundamental for the Nerazzurri in this latter part of the season after recovering from one of his injuries. Against Parma he was the king of the midfield.
Massimo Ambrosini (Milan): Once again, a lot of quantity and quality in aid of his side. Deserves to be the new Rossoneri’s captain if Maldini retires.
Kaka (Milan): Three assists in a game in which he proved his class. Pity about the missed penalty, but at least it was not a decisive one for the final score.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic (Inter): Has always been criticized that he is not decisive in the important matches, but on Sunday he proved everyone wrong, as he came off the bench to net a spectacular double and win Inter the title.
Massimo Maccarone (Siena): A brace to end the season on a high, with the second goal being one which will be remembered for a long time thanks to its beauty.
Alessandro Del Piero (Juventus): Two goals against Sampdoria which handed him the Serie A top-scorer title. His best season in the Italian top flight in a long time.
