Suazo is causing havoc in Roma's defence. Inter player or not, the guy is one hell of player.

I am not too sure the impact Suazo will have in the league for Inter, but in CL I feel his presence makes Inter a genuine contender to win it all. Fantastic, fantasic player; when he runs at defenders he make them quake in their boots.

Vucinic, on the other hand, has been useless. Can't run fast, can't head well, and he can't even keep ball. Obviously he has talent, otherwise he wouldnt have scored all that goals for Lecce, but right now, he is desperately short of confidence and form. I think Roma should feed Aquilani a bit more. He seem to be one their most creative players other than Totti.

Lastly, Spaletti should stop his team from playing passess just in front of their box. They are not doing it properly, and giving away too many possessions in front of goal. But other than that, I thought Roma looked the better side.

Sublime skill by Ibra linking up with Figo. Inter came out of the track quicker in the second half.

I don't know how many games Figo can reasonably play in a season, but in important matches Mancini should play Figo, Ibra and Suazo. Figo and Ibra links up so well together, and Suazo gives them physical presence.

Roma can be irresistable at times, but their lack of defensive ball winner, could haunt them. They can't see the balls for long time, if they are not passing the ball well. But hen they are in form, well opposition is in for lot of running.

Perrotta is sent off before he even came on to the pitch! He is about to come on, and Ref waves red card, for virtually nothing!

    Penalty to Roma!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Burdisso brings down Totti! It was a soft penalty, but it seems in Italia, if Totti gets touched, its an automatic foul.

    Come on Roma!

Soccer is a game of momentum. Inter steam-rolled over Roma in the second half, but Vuncinic gets two guilt edge chances straight after the goal!

Totti just done one of the best skill I have ever seen.

He takes on 3 defenders or so, and some guys tackles him deflecting the ball into air via Totti's shin, and Totti just instinctively backhills the ball over Materazzi's head.

    Roma win!!!!!!!!!!!

MOM of the match has to go to Totti. He was driving force in everything that came good from Roma in this match. I am not a big fan of Vucinic, but he allows Totti to play deeper on the pitch, and giving him the freedom to shine.

    Doni: Bravisimo.

Cassetti: Ok, look to go forward whenever possible
    Tonetto: Ditto
    Mexes: Poor by his standard
Panucci: Best of the bunch. I like him better as CB.

Aquilani: Decent when the ball is on his feet. Worked hard as well. But he can be more authorative on the pitch. He has so much talent, and didnt quite express his all.
    De Rossi: Good display.

Taddei: Willing, and shown nice touches. But very little penetration.
Giuly: Lively, but lacking finishes. He was decent in first half, but faded badly in second.
Totti: MOM. It was bound to be him or Suazo depending who won the game.

Vucinic: Poor display IMO. But playing lone striker is a hard job.

Another interesting thing: De Rossi was the one who took the PK, instead of Totti.

De Rossi's PK against France in Berlin is unforgetable.

This match had a lot of action, but little of it very productive. Neither team could finish. Guily was dreadful at finishing, despite all the early pressure Roma put on and the chances they created for him. Ibra had a very good game, but nobody on Inter could finish either -- Suazo seemed particularly poor in this regard... I had no confidence in seeing him score today despite his touches and ball motion.

In the end it was De Rossi who kept this from being the StuporCoppa, being the only player who could stand up and finish anything this evening. Congrats to Roma.

Totti shouldnt take PK at all. Remember that penalty when he chipped straight into Storari's (I think) arm.

Having said that De Rossi got lucky as well. Julio Cesar got a GOOD hand on that ball. I like Roma's philosophy. Spalletti seems to judge players mainly on technical basis. But that is going to be bite them epsecially in CL, because in the second half, they couldnt see the ball until they got their winner. And they WILL be times where they cant simply pass the opposition off the park.

Super Cup: De Rossi ends Inter reign
    Sunday 19 August, 2007

Daniele De Rossi's penalty gave Roma the first trophy of the season - the Italian Super Cup - with a 1-0 victory at Inter.

These two teams clashed repeatedly last season for the Scudetto, Coppa Italia and the Italian Super Cup. The Giallorossi were leading 3-0 at San Siro only to lose 4-3 in extra time. They were back again and Roma were out for revenge.

Inter surprisingly left Adriano in the stands along with the suspended Douglas Maicon, as there were so many forwards fighting for places. Cristian Chivu started in defence, facing his former teammates for the first time since that drawn-out transfer saga. Christian Panucci was a makeshift centre-back for Roma due to an injury crisis.

The visitors had the first real chance after six minutes and really should have taken the lead, but Ludovic Giuly incredibly volleyed over a totally open goal from Max Tonetto’s cut-back. Soon after, Julio Cesar held a Mirko Vucinic strike.

Luciano Spalletti’s men dominated the early possession, but when David Suazo launched on the counter he forced a booking out of Tonetto. Zlatan Ibrahimovic saw yellow for dissent.

Roma had penalty appeals when Totti exchanged passes with Giuly and the Frenchman was nudged off the ball mid-dribble by Marco Materazzi. The move continued and Giuly was again set free from six yards only for Julio Cesar to smother the shot.

Suazo went clear on another counter, but slipped as he entered the area. A scuffle broke out when Panucci went in elbow first on Nicolas Burdisso, infuriating Dejan Stankovic. The argument between the two continued for some time and both were booked.

The Nerazzurri continued to struggle in midfield and had no width. However, their strikers remain dangerous and Suazo combined with Ibrahimovic for the Swede to swing inches wide of the far post.

A comical Julio Cesar clearance nearly gave Roma a goal and Ibrahimovic’s free kick was well over. On the stroke of half-time, Stankovic rolled across for Ibra’s first time shot just past the near post.

After the restart Suazo again used his pace to find room and Doni parried the finish with his legs, then the former Cagliari star attempted an acrobatic volley.

Giuly wasted yet another golden opportunity. Totti’s inspired disguised pass set the Frenchman clear, but once again he ballooned over from six yards.

Inter were under pressure, so Luis Figo replaced Olivier Dacourt. Marco Materazzi went into the book for going through the back of Totti and Roma had penalty appeals for a Cordoba shove on Daniele De Rossi.

Suazo also had an incredible chance, turning a weak totally free header straight into the grateful arms of Doni.

There was chaos on 69 minutes, as Roma threatened with a series of shots – one of which may have struck Figo’s arm – and on the counter Figo was going round Doni before the Brazilian managed to fingertip the ball off his foot with a perfectly-timed intervention.

Moments later Simone Perrotta was sent off before he even stepped on to the field. He was on the sidelines waiting to come on as a substitute when the referee showed him the red card in a very unusual incident. The fourth official demanded the decision for dissent, so Matteo Brighi came on instead for the disappointing Giuly.

Materazzi was felled by a Totti missile and at the third appeal Roma were awarded a penalty. Burdisso brought down Totti as the captain dribbled past him. Totti has missed a series of spot kicks in the past year and left the task to De Rossi, who put his effort in the tiny area between Julio Cesar and the near post, ricocheting in off the upright.

Soon after, Julio Cesar parried a point-blank shot from Vucinic, but Doni clattered into Marco Cassetti as Inter almost took advantage of that howler from a set-piece.

Totti had another shot charged down and again protested when he clashed with Materazzi, but Roma emerged with the victory. Inter had won the last two editions of the Italian Super Cup and this is the second for the Giallorossi.

    Inter 0-1 Roma
Scorers: De Rossi pen 78 (R)
Inter: Julio Cesar; Burdisso (Cruz 86), Cordoba, Materazzi, Chivu; Vieira (Cambiasso 66), Dacourt (Figo 52), Zanetti; Stankovic; Ibrahimovic, Suazo
Roma: Doni; Cassetti, Panucci, Mexes, Tonetto; De Rossi, Aquilani; Taddei, Giuly (Brighi 73), Vucinic (Rosi 90); Totti
    Ref: Rosetti
    Sent off: Perrotta 70 (R – bench)

Good evaluation swag. Suazo isnt the best of finisher from what I have seen him last two years. But I think Suazo was wanted by Mancini, because of CL and not Leauge. The biggest problem with Inter last year in big matchs was that they had very little penetration. The only bit of imagination they have in their team is Ibra's skills, Figo's cameo role, and occasional Stankovic's magic. That is to little to go by in big matches where you do need to break down good defences. What Suazo did particuarly well today is that he has such a good movement, and pace that it keeps defenders honest. Tricks are no good if you cant keep defenders honest. Mexes tried to bring the line up in first half, but having burned couple of times by Suazo, he simply back tracked and stayed deeper, which IMO was the biggest reason why Inter had so much space in the second half. This means Ibra was able to fully express himself with superb touches and some magical skills. I think having Figo on the pitch helped. They share excellent understanding between each other. Against poor teams, Inter has Cruz, Crespo, Adriano and Recoba to choose from. I don't think Suazo's finishing will matter that much.
