Serbs in Kosovo are holding the inaugural session of an assembly set up in defiance of the majority ethnic Albanian government and the UN.

The meeting is being held in the ethnically divided city of Mitrovica.
Fifty three members were elected in May during Serbia's general and municipal elections - a ballot which the UN and Kosovo's government said was illegal.
Kosovo's ethnic Albanians declared independence from Serbia in February, despite Serb and Russian opposition.
Kosovo has been recognised by 43 states, including the United States and most European Union nations - but Belgrade and Moscow say the move was illegal under international law.

People from across Serbia converged on Mitrovica to show their support for the new assembly of Kosovo's Serbs.

Serbia has more important problems to solve such as about 1000000 unemployed people and 30000-40000 people less every year.

Governments are always inefficient. And I don't know how a ballot can be illegal. At least here in the US, you can even put down Osama Bin Laden or Bernie the Clown on your ballot. As long as the candidates fall within election specifications for Serbia, ie nationality matters, et cetera, they can elect whomever they want.

Yet I still don't understand how what Serbia has done is "irrational." Perhaps you could explain this to me. Why is what they've done "irrational?"

It's waste of energy, money... For me rational behavior of politicians in my country is to provide better life to people, more jobs, bigger salaries, to bring foreign investors,... When Albanians proclaimed their independency (from Serbia) they said that this is the only problem we have, it's not important if people don't have jobs, money to pay a bills.
And at the and it's simple math, if there is crises in some region there won't be investments.

Well, they want to oppose the people who took land from them. That's rational behavior that any nation would subscribe to. The better word to describe the way the Serb government treats their people would perhaps be careless, or carefree, if what you're saying is really the case.

It's not rational when you don't want to look the truth in the eyes. What I want to say is that Kosovo is lost. And that did not happened last winter but long, long time ago.
