my boy varga scored again. a brace against portugal this time

portugal have a much, much stronger team though
Varga had a great match. He got fed two key crosses from his defensive wingers while Rúben Dias' brain was out for a walk in the woods. Clinical.

They say possession is 9/10ths of the law, and the law was almost all Portugal. However I liked how Hungary counterattacked. They don't have the quality of Portugal, but they lacked hesitation or fear and poured forward against them when the opportunity came, which was really smart.

They almost got a point out of it if not for Cancelo taking the whole match in his hands on one insanely aggressive and impressive run.

the 3rd goal was mainly on rossi though. when i saw that we planned to play from the back against the high press instead of kicking the ball far away from goal and trying to keep the ball up front as much as possible, i told to my brother you don't play like this against aggressive pressing. and kerkez fucked it up 4 seconds later. rossi should have known that we're too error prone for those tactics

kudos to cancelo too, but we have every reason to blame ourselves for the suicidal tactics

Totally. It was a bit of ball-watching and lackadaisical play where Cancelo pounced on the tackle, stole the ball in midfield, and set himself up on a surging run with a triangle off Bernardo for the winner.

Even so, that Cancelo did that the way he did took an extra level of talent that few other players -- even in this Portugal squad -- could pull that off.

So to counter my previous post, that's one aspect where Hungary could have done more to respect their opponent.
