E quella laurea vale per sempre. Il Bernabeu in piedi per me, dopo i due gol, decisivi. La sorpresa di quell’applauso che comincia a salire, salire, salire, sempre più forte. La standing ovation. Non finirò mai di ringraziare il pubblico madridista per quell’omaggio. E vi ricordo che stavano perdendo 2-0 in casa, questo rende tutto più incredibile».
Si parla spesso di “miedo escenico”, cioè di “paura del palcoscenico”, a proposito del Bernabeu: fa davvero tanta impressione?
«Sicuramente. È uno stadio che incute timore, è enorme, imponente. E poi è caldo, rumoroso, i tifosi sanno disorientarti con quel frastuono. Capisco bene quella sensazione, ma a volte proprio quell’atmosfera sa esaltare come poco altro».
La Juve è in Spagna dopo l’incredibile sconfitta di Firenze. Pensa sia il posto giusto per riscattarsi, oppure è un grosso rischio?
«Nel 2008 ci rilanciarono proprio due vittorie contro il Real: auguro alla Juventus che accada lo stesso, non è impossibile. Difficile, non impossibile».
La Roma vola, la Juve non sembra quella di prima: è così difficile restare i migliori?
«Ho seguito tutto da troppo distante per dare un giudizio. Una cosa posso dirla: so quanto sia difficile vincere, rivincere, figuriamoci farlo per la terza volta. Ma si può. E, soprattutto, so che a novembre non si possono dare giudizi definitivi».
Le piace questa Roma? Può arrivare in fondo?

Vivere lo sport in questo Paese è davvero un privilegio: c’è competenza, cultura, rispetto e grande voglia di godersi un bello spettacolo. È tutto molto formativo. Sono sicuro che questa fase della mia vita sarà importante anche per il futuro, sebbene io non sappia cosa mi riserverà».
Il titolo del suo libro, “Giochiamo ancora”, è sempre d’attualità? Fino a quando durerà quell’ancora?
«Tra dicembre e gennaio comincerò seriamente a pensare a cosa fare al termine della stagione. Al momento non mi precludo alcuna possibilità, è troppo presto».
Dopo, tornerà in Italia per restare nel calcio, come dirigente o come opinionista tv, oppure continuerà a cercare nuovi stimoli in giro per il mondo?
