Andries, what is done, is done with Agnelli. The handling of the whole situation in announcing it early in the season is a topic of discussion that will go on for years. I am not concerned with that in the least.
What I am concerned with is how they came to the conlcusion that this was going to be Alex's last year. Why it was decided, was it a mutual agreement, and issues surrounding that decision are what interest me moreso than the timing of the announcement
If I am perfectly honest I think the main man behind all this was Antonio Conte. I'm not saying he is necessarily wrong. I
think he is. I
think Del Piero had another year left in him. And so do many others. I think Conte wanted Alex out, so that he could continue with a project. If Alex is there, it will alway be about Alex. We can't deny that. There are millions of people watching
because of Alessandro Del Piero. When he's on the roster, it's about him. Which, for the past 19 years, has been perfectly fine. But there comes a time when Del Piero can't do it on his own anymore.
But in the end, everyone has to go at some point. Del Piero wanted to keep on playing for Juventus and that is why he is a champion, but that is also why at some point someone has to say they'll go on without him. Del Piero has done more than enough for this club. It rips my heart out to see him leave and I have thought about it pretty much every second since Sunday, but it's just the way things go.
