Well, aside from being ice-cold and cruel and building a story around the "certain departure of Del Piero" so he goes without the lingering possibility of staying another year. Or something.

I have no doubt that he'd have loved to continue playing. He seems to be pretty honest about wanting to spend time with his family, though.
