How had he proven his leadership??? by sticking with us, and scoring goals when he was started WHENEVER fit last season???

I am curious, Fred, as to how you determine that DP has been and remains a 'great captain'...for I am lacking the same opinion, yet you are one of the very few on these boards, whose opinion, I value...

16.03.2010 COME ON DAVID!

I’m very sorry about what has happened to David Beckham. Being in a final sprint for scudetto, with World Championship only two months away, it’s really hard to believe that an injury like that takes everything away just in a few seconds.
Surely enough the same can be said not only about David’s case, but as I know him well I feel real sorry about what has happened to him. He is a nice guy, a great professional player, and above all the one who plays, being swept along by immense passion for football and for sport in general, the quality that has already allowed him to remain among the leaders for many years, seeking and facing new challenges. Winning them all.
Dear David, I’m sure that this time you’ll win again.Come on, good luck!
See you on the pitch.

15.03.2010 What has changed?

The party didn’t last long. I scored the 300th goal (+2, did you think I forgot?) of my career and then, the 301st right after that.

Unfortunately the party didn’t last long, because I hoped to celebrate this target with a victory. I have told quite often that a goal, even being “vitally” important for the attacker, isn’t worth much if the team doesn’t win. Unfortunately the result we have built up, with remarkable beginning of the match, was neutralized by Siena recovery, and here we are to talk about our mistakes and the lost opportunity, even if we did our best in the match and especially at the beginning.

Back to my goals, just for a moment forgetting about what has happened later, I have to say that it was wonderful to look up at the section where Sonja, my son Tobias and my friends were and see all these people who are dear to me, to celebrate with me. The idea to have shirts with number 300 on the back was just great, I didn’t know anything about it, leave alone the shirts with number 301! Just ingenious!

At the end of the match I was asked what has changed and what has remained unchanged since the day I scored my first goal, on the 22nd of November 1993, playing professionally for Padova football club. I answered that my will to improve my performance, to win and to be the best has never changed. And this can be a good reason to overcome the disappointment of this match and to give our best already in the next match against Fulham.

Ps. After the post match interviews I thought over this question. Actually something has changed compared to 17 years ago. And not just the time that passes. I saw the changes looking up at the stage on Sunday afternoon.

I don't care if SUNS says anything about DP as a player, a forward, a fk taker or i don't know what...but to criticise him like that as a captain, saying that 'this captain only cares about his goals' (and compare him to fucking interista) it's really disgraceful. stupid comment

How does a leadership prove himself on the pitch? Please tell me.

But, but stop making it as if he doesn't like Del Piero. He loves Del Piero, he's the reason that Suns started supporting Juventus, please don't make it like he doesn't stand him.

What's even more priceless is that, he made that comment right after Inter's qualification:lol2:, comparing him to Zanetti immediatly. Tells you how much plastic fans exists in today's football.

del piero is such an example to all players, he is a gentleman through and through, one of the most talented players of his generation. Juventus' all time greatest, how isnt he a good captain? he leads by example, simple.

He leads by example. He demands the respect of all around him. He speak FOR the club. His heart beats FOR the club. He is the one player on the field, who whenever the chips are down, and all other heads have drooped, his head remains HIGH, PROUD, DETERMINED, WAR-LIKE.

Del Piero has never shown intense determination. He has never commanded the troops other than through decency, which is enough for some players, as long as there is a manager who demands the DETERMINATION and WAR, but without this, DP, as a capitano, is exposed, as nothing more than a warm hearted, honourable, ultra loyal, ultra nice man. Nice...can be lame. Especially in football. I prefer vicious, and war like, as modern football demands, to Nice and Lame and Loyal.

I can see, very clearly why people consider DP a great captain, but personally, when I am used to captains, like...Roy Keane...John Terry...Baresi...Dunga...Gerrard...Ballack...Puyol.

All of the above, FIGHT, as much as they play. as much as they show loyalty...as much as they show honour...

Roy Keane the drunk, the man that beats women.John Terry the man that cheats on his wife, that complains publicly on a live televised match, the captain that couldn't inspire his team to overcome a slender 1-0 lead? Ballack couldn't lift his team mates last night either!

Those guys are aggresive but Gerrard produces a lot for pool but lately he hasn't done that much.Pool are out of the CL.Baresi & Dunga had magnificent players that didn't really need to be super motivated to produce moments of magic.Their talent was there to be seen & they conquered as a collective unit not by some captain lifting them up.Same could be said for Puyol,if Puyol was captain for Valencia i doubt you'd be singing his praises.

Are you seriously telling me that Keane and Terry were and are not amazing captains in football terms? If so...you are a lovely chap, but sorely lacking an understanding of the more unsavoury, but ultra important, elements of the game of football...

Del Piero is world's greatest captain..after him comes raul and puyol...but that's just my top. Paolo Maldini could've been added to your list gutterpoet too (as a has been of course).

Agreed on Maldini, but not the rest. Raul is too similar to the DP mould...I am not keen on flimsy, pretty, but lacking ferocity strikers, as captains. And neither is football, as a game...

I never said they weren't but you could have used better examples. These guys are aggressive & very loud.It seems thats how you base your good captain ideas on.

Has DP not lifted this team when we really needed it? Have you forgotten the countless occasions when he scored the winning goal or pass that won a game?

Clearly you forgot about his mesmerizing performance in the CL against Real Madrid last season.I wonder why he received a standing ovation at the santiago bernabeu. If that's not a show of respect,i don't know what is.
