Del Piero wants '30th’ title

Juventus talisman Alessandro Del Piero insists that if the Bianconeri win the Scudetto this year it will be the 30th in their 112-year history, not their 28th.
The Turin giants had two titles revoked in 2006 and were relegated to Serie B with a severe points deduction as the Calciopoli scandal shook Italian football.
“The Scudetti? I won them on the pitch,” said Del Piero after scoring the winner in Juventus’ 1-0 victory at home to Siena.
“I am happy [thinking] like this. It really doesn’t matter to me whether five of the seven titles are written [next to my name.]”
The Bianconeri cut Inter’s lead to just four points thanks to Sunday’s win and Del Piero believes his team are now very much in the hunt for the championship crown.
“The road is still very long, we have to show that we deserve to be in this position. Today, we won with sheer bloody mindedness in a game that wasn’t all that brilliant.
“I am happy because we won a difficult match, but also because we worked hard to get back into the swing of things. Now, lads, the break is over!”
Del Piero was also keen to praise his teammates, especially stand-in goalkeeper Alex Manninger who performed admirably.
“Once again he’s been exceptional, he was ready as soon as Gigi [Buffon] was injured and has continued giving us important performances.”
The 35-year-old World Cup winner did admit, however, that the Scudetto remains Inter’s to lose rather than Juventus’ to win.
“Inter are now a little closer, but they still have to lose a lot of ground. Anyway, there is still a long way to go in this championship.”
Juventus return to action this weekend when they travel to free-scoring Lazio who currently lie seventh in Serie A, nine points behind the Bianconeri.
