Del Piero reveals English dream

Friday 13 January, 2006

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Alessandro Del Piero made the remarkable revelation today that he could be leaving Juventus for English football.

The striker, who became the Bianconeri’s highest ever scorer with 185 goals this week, made the intriguing revelation in an interview in today’s La Gazzetta dello Sport.

"I don’t want to stop here," said Del Piero. "My objectives go far beyond the goals I have scored – even though they have made me very happy."

With six Italian titles, a Champions League winner’s medal and a place in the pantheon of Italian greats assured, Pinturicchio has every reason to be happy.

But the 31-year-old is in no mood to sit still – and in fact may not even be staying in Turin for much longer.

Del Piero is not an automatic first choice starter in Fabio Capello’s star-studded side and, as he approaches the last few years of his career, it seems that Juve’s No 10 would like to try a foreign adventure in the Premiership.

"One thing I would never do is play for another Italian side," he added. "I would rather go to England - that is somewhere that really appeals to me.

"It is a bit too soon to decide about that yet, though," he continued. "I’ll be here definitely until June and then I’ll make a decision, but in the United Kingdom football is tastier."
Del Piero, who was signed from Padova as a youngster in 1993, is currently tied to the Stadio Delle Alpi team until June 2008.

I have just read it and it is the worst thing ever happened at Juve!

What are we going to do without our Del Piero!?

He gives me so much sympathy for Juve, and without Aless I think the most of Juves spirit will disappear

Fuck the 13th friday!!   :frown: :( :shifty: :disagree:

Indeed. I honestly can't see him leaving, But IF thats really true, I don't blame or neither will get mad at him, If that stubborn Capello will continue on sitting in our bench, than I don't blame Ale for leaving.

But then again, I'm quite sure this will not happen. He can't break ppl's heart that easy;). He knows how much ppl he got behind him.

Leaving to england after the World Cup will be best for Del Piero and I hope he does it. Capello won't suddenly play him before Zlatan or something. Right after the WC he should go. People talk as if Del Piero should retire in Juve, like he's 36 or something. Without further injuries, Del Piero can have 3-4 great seasons in the starting lineup in England, and I really hope he leaves. The benching is ridicilous and ruins the taste of what we can get of this player. He probably should have moved sonner too, but now with the record, the imminent WC, moving after that will be the best choice. Staying at Juve on the bench will be a tragedy. Only If Capello leaves though this season and a new trainer comes who really likes Del Piero he should stay.

He's posturing during his new contract negotiations. Probably to increase his paycheck from Juve, but maybe to "force" a more regular starting role. He is going nowhere. :)

So true. I will be really sad to see this great man go but it I will look forward to watching Match Of The Day just to catch a glimpse of him performing his magic in front of English audiences.

Lucky bastards
