Do you watch sports on TV?

“Of course, whenever I can and whenever they let me[referring to his children]… Because between 'Dora the Explorer’ and the 'Teletubbies’…” :D

How come your physique has changed so much?

“It changed November 8, 1998. I was out 12 months, walked around with crutches for 4. It changed my career and made me a better player. Before I was a tough guy, fast, good technically, following only instinct. Later I tamed too much of that, now I am trying to find a balance.”
can you guys imagine how good he could have been if he never suffered that terrible injury?

a part of me feels grateful as it matured him into something greater, but still....

This has been a hard but importand decision, and i cant stand cunts like dzeman talking doping crap about it

he was the best of the world before the injury, and to avoid ending his carreer early, he had to take on more mass to make muscles less fragile
it he had to change his game, worked so much with gym, finding a balance.

before that injury, fuck messi alex was superior

after that injury, i cant recall anyone who had to change everything so much, and then ended up wich such illustrious carreer.

This pic Melo posted, look at these stats, and it's not only according to the stats IMO, while it's probably true that he could have been a better player hadn't it been for his injury in Friuli, Alex has matched that glorious season prior to his injury a couple more times. This "he never became the player he was before that incident" is bullshit.

He was never that player. He is way too intelligent and talented not to score goals and lead the team, but that Del Piero before the injury was a completely different kind of player.
Maybe quality wise and stat wise he was giving the same, so you do make a good point. He did become a different kind of player. He moved differently on the pitch, covered different position and, like he said himself, he used to be fast and followed the instinct, which made him much more spectacular than he was after the injury.
I'm seeing a similar trend with Ronaldo. He's not as spectacular but he's much smarter and giving just as much as when he played his last season(s) in United. Not the same as DP but similar.
I guess you could call it "maturing". In DP's case it's the injury that made him so mature as a footballer at pretty young age.

Del Piero pre injury was arguably the best player in the world.

After his injury, he was never quite the same, in terms of dynamism and explosiveness; however, he did become more mature and efficient. He has always been an intelligent player, but after the injury his intelligence on the pitch increased, to compensate for losing some of his pace, dynamism, explosiveness, mobility even.
