Ahead of the match between Juventus and Bologna, Marco Di Vaio has spoken to Turin newspaper La Stampa of his time at Juventus and the Old Lady’s symbol – Alessandro Del Piero.

The Juve legend is out of contract at the end of the season and although talks are ongoing there is a current disagreement between the Club and player regarding financial worth. Ex-Juventino Di Vaio is adamant i Bianconeri need Pinturicchio.

“Let’s not kid ourselves: A Juventus without Del Piero does not exist. If Juve want to return to winning ways they can do so only with Del Piero in the squad. He still has plenty to offer. It’s not just the economic factor, it is more than that – it is his presence around the Club.”

Di Vaio spoke of his time in Turin, where he found playing time limited during his two-season stay because of competition from the likes of Del Piero. Despite a Scudetto during his time there (2002/03) it was minutes on the pitch he most craved:

“When I went to Juventus Alessandro was 30-years-old and I was 28. He was in the best form of his career. For me it was not enough to play only for a few minutes off the bench. In the second year I played more and felt important when Ale was out with injury. When he came back I returned to the bench and I was not happy with that. However, I understood he was a fundamental player and virtually untouchable.”

Despite finding his playing time limited when together, Di Vaio had kind words to say of tomorrow night’s opposing captain: “With him [Del Piero] I had a great rapport. You are talking about a leader, an incredible professional and a great man. He is a symbol and has done everything in the name of Juventus.”

And that's what he is saying in this vid:

"Hi all, I think the right moment has come to talk directly to you, guys, you, who have been following me with a lot of passion for years, day by day. For some time I've been reading some comments linked to my name about situations and behavior that have absolutely nothing to do with me and this upsets me really.

A profound love for football, Juventus jersey and team's fans have been always the reason and engine of my career. Not money: I've earned a lot in my life and I could have earned even more, playing somewhere else if I accepted the offers made to me numerous times even in the latest period.

I've talked to the President, not about the financial aspects, but about my will to play also next season, about my determination, professionalism, my passion, my wish to win more, the wish that has been always within me, from the Viareggio tournament to the World championship, leave apart Serie B.

I do care to point out that my ties to this jersey and to my fans can not be measured in numbers. I signed my first Juventus contract blank, and I will sign blank the last contract of my career wearing this jersey.

That's all.
Big hug. Ciao.

Alessandro"

i have always said that love of the team is more important than any player.. i loved Juventus with Del Piero and will love it without him but man it will be so hard to see this team without him.. such a great loyal and very rare player to find this days. i think i will cry the day he will retire and the most of my people knows that my tires are locked up with the death of my mom. this man inspired me in my childhood and even now..
