not to bring you down rab, but that system restore never helped me at all, neither did it help anyone i know. :(

do you have any anti-virus software? firewall? anti-spyware? if you don't have any of these it's a wonder you can turn on your pc. :p anyway that kind of thing happened to me few years ago, and a friend told me to do a seacrh for spyware, i used adaware and it found hundreds of malicious files. you should download it and run it. it won't give you your stuff back, but it could help prevent from happening again. and get a anti-virus if you don't have one already.
