the second thing is what do u guys do to get over the pain that hits yr body after yr first few times at the gym?? is there any analgesic u use ( like voltern tablets, injection, or olfen etc.....)

I eat bananas when I get sore muscles thats what I was told to do after i overexerted myself. I think it works although I ate like 8 bananas. I don't know how true it is but it worked for me.

i go to the gym 6x for a week for about 3 hours or i can push for 3.5 but usually after i wilt lol...but i've always been a member of a gym plus i run 6-8 miles on mornings but then again i'm a girl so you might not want my opinion on the types of workouts you're doing for your biceps lol
What exactly do you do at the gym? Do you do weights or anything like that? I have been thinking of incorporating weights into my routine to help keep my metabolism up but I do not want any muscle definition.

it mostly replaces the potassium that you lose during training, which a lack of can cause cramping

Funny that this thread comes up now, as I decided to get back to some sportng recently. I guess a gym is my best option as the winter is coming and I hate running anyway.

So, anyone have some tips on how I should get started? I'm thiking more cardio-fitness-lose some weight more than muscles or anything.
I plan to go like 3-4 times a week, for 1-2 hours. What would youguys recommend, time-wise and exercise wise?
the cardio workout i posted earlier is a geat way of boosting your cardio fitness and losing weight fast, plus its quite quick to bash out give it a try

light weights, cardio, pilates and i've just started taking spinning classes. plus the other things like working different areas-legs,tummy,upper body-different days of the week.
if its lean muscle you want-no major defintion then i recommend pilates and the light weights.

best way to use creatine is load up for 5 days have it 3 times a day than have it once a day for the next 6-8 weeks than break for 2 weeks should be able to help people go over that period where they plato.

i hit to the gym 3 times a week. usually just for classes, rpm (spinning) mostly. i need instructors constantly to whip my ass into shape. machines are a bore but i guess if you want to train specific muscles they'd help. for abs, the balls do the job nicely. used to do weights but my arms became a bit too muscly and skinny so i switched to push ups for overall strength.

hey donna, you shouldn't hesitate with the weights. if you don't want the bulk go for 4-6lbs weights.

i'd usually snack on bananas after workouts for energy but not too much of them though. it's laden with complex carb which is hard for the body to break down.

For recovery I generally eat some sort of protein and fruit somewhere between when I finish the work out and 45 minutes later. Also if you experience a lot of next day soreness, a little whiskey before bed can help that out. I noticed a lot of guys in my pop's bike club do that after long rides, I tried it and it works decently. Though I think it's the deep sleep that is the result of the whiskey.

If you guys want a killer workout without have to lift free weights try swimming. You can find some swimming workouts on line that can really bust your ass. Another good thing is rowing or canoeing, I did a lot of canoeing this summer and the effect on my upper body and abs was intense. If you really want to be badass go kick the shit out of a tree. Just kidding.

Thanks. I usually just do running in the morning and sometimes at night depending on my mood. I have done light weights but since I am probably the weakest girl in the world 5 pounds is too much. I've never really done Pilates so I might see how I like that.

I only hesitate with weights its because I am trying to achieve a certain look with my arms. I have done the 5lb weights but they began to give my arm a little definition so I quit it. I guess I shouldn't be so hesitant towards them. I do use them with ab exercises but thats it. I don't know I just don't want definition in my arms becuase I never want to look like Madonna.

@Enron.Ive done swimming off and on for a while, and its never worked for me.One of the biggest reasons behind it is the fact that ive never been able to treat swimming as a proper workout. To me it'll always be something that i do for fun.and i think a lot of people treat that way too.Changing that mentality has been the hardest thing for me.Ill do 2 laps, and then ill just float around and relax:D.

I just moved on to 4 slabs on the butterfly machine in the gym.Its my 2nd week and man 4 slabs are hard.I do 5 sets of 15 each.

definition can be sexy though :) IMO jennifer aniston has the best looking arms. tone and lean. weights+pilates/yoga can do that.

i don't think normal girls can achieve the madonna's body without the help of protein supplements and years of gruelling workout. she's a nutjob

If you're looking to gain weight, this drink is very handy:

    Throw it in your mixer.

    1/4 oat flakes
    2 raw eggs
    1-2 bananas
    and fill with milk

If you don't like the taste of it (I do), add some cocoa powder or similar. If you are desperate not to gain fat, you can remove the egg yolk. You should drink that whenever you're hungry between your meals and after workout. Try to eat something every third hour, whether it's this mix or a proper meal.

I used to feel stronger after going to the gym (or doing whatever sports) but I could not gain weight whatever I did. Now I've gone from 70kg to nearly 80 (I'm 186cm) since last December and I'm looking to add some more.

You have to do it like a set of sprints. Like 100m rest, 100m rest, etc. Also try using only your arms doing the same thing.

Im thinking of qutting Gym.Its only been a month, but i dont 'feel' any change.I joined it to lose weight, but there hasnt been any noticeable change.I think ill shift to running. But the problem with that is that i start huffing and puffing after like 10 minutes, which really fucking sucks.I smoke off and on,so i guess i can blame being short of breath on it.
